Continue ReadingHouston playoffs keep getting better every single week. Round three I decided to go watch The Atascocita Eagles (11-2) vs The Ridge Points Panthers (11-2). Both teams are top 10 in Houston and favorited to win the state championship this year. The game started off strong with both teams stopping each other from scoring. The Atascocita Eagles were the 1st to score before the 2nd half. During the 2nd half both teams were scoring back to back, but The Ridge Point Panthers couldn’t catch up to The Atascocita Eagles the final score was 24-21 with The Atascocita Eagles moving on to regional finals. The Ridge Point Panthers might have lost, but they had a lot of outstanding athletes on both sides of the ball and I’ll be discussing the defensive standouts.
#7 Ryan Ramey CB Jr 6’0 175 lbs
Ryan Ramey is a fast cornerback. One important factor I will say about Ryan is he was ALWAYS IN THE ACTION. Even though he was supposed to be covering his man Ryan made a lot of stops and tackles on the quarterback and running backs. Ryan is a big part of Ridge Point’s defense he’s going to continue to be in his senior year if football.
#15 James Walley Jr OLB Jr 6’2 215 lbs
James Walley Jr is a component outside linebacker. James always laid on the pressure making solid tackle after tackle. If anyone ran to James they weren’t getting pass him without a struggle. James catch an interception one play and put Ridge Point on the 25 yard line for offense. James will be an even better line backer next year in his senior year.
#42 Mason Hall OLB Sr 6’0 210 lbs
One of the defensive players that stood out the most to me was #42 Mason Hall. Mason is an outside linebacker and he’s very good at his job. Mason is very strong no one on Atascocita could hold him back for very long. Mason on one play got chop blocked, but he stayed on his feet and forced the quarterback to throw the ball out of bounds. Mason is a greet and decisive linebacker I hope he will continue his football career in college.
#27 Taylor Davis CB, FS, SS Jr 6’0 180 lbs
Taylor Davis didn’t stand out a lot during the 1st half, but the 2nd half he cranked it up a notch. Taylor is a versatile defensive player being able to play as a cornerback, free safety and strong safety. Taylor was always covering his zone or man, but after awhile no action came his way. Therefore, Taylor moved up and let his presence known to Atascocita. Taylor read one of Atascocita’s run play and as soon as the running back touched the ball he instantly regretted when he saw Taylor right in his face. I’m looking forward to seeing more of Taylor next year in his senior year of football.
