Continue ReadingHouston playoffs keep getting better every single week. Round three I decided to go watch The Atascocita Eagles (11-2) vs The Ridge Points Panthers (11-2). Both teams are top 10 in Houston and favorited to win the state championship this year. The game started off strong with both teams stopping each other from scoring. The Atascocita Eagles were the 1st to score before the 2nd half. During the 2nd half both teams were scoring back to back, but The Ridge Point Panthers couldn’t catch up to The Atascocita Eagles the final score was 24-21 with The Atascocita Eagles moving on to regional finals. The Atascocita Eagles had a lot of outstanding athletes on both sides of the ball and I’ll be discussing the defensive standouts.
#99 Samu Taumanupepe DT, NG Jr 6’3 350 lbs
Samu Taumanupepe is always a huge standout on the defensive line for The Atascocita Eagles. Samu is a defensive tackle and nose guard with both strength and quickness. Samu was a big threat up the middle for The Ridge Point Panthers stopping majority of their run plays. Samu was able to use his speed and overwhelming strength to get into the backfield and sack the quarterback. Samu is a college prospect having an offer from Texas State University, but by the end of his senior year of football I’m sure he’ll get a lot more offers from different colleges and universities.
#9 Jonah Caseltine WR, TE, DE, OLB Sr 6’3 210 lbs
Jonah Caseltine is fast, quick, strong and decisive. Jonah on defense can line up as either a defensive end or an outside linebacker. Jonah during the Ridge Point game lined up as a linebacker. Jonah as linebacker was great at reading Ridge Point offense and could exactly where the ball was going. Whether, Jonah was at the linebacker position or defensive end he was always quick, decisive and in the action. Jonah currently has a college offer from Louisiana College.
#30 Micah Tate DE, OLB Sr 6’3 225 lbs
#30 Micah Tate is a skillful outside linebacker Micah was great at reading Ridge Point’s offensive plays as all linebacker should be. Micah always kept a close eye on the ball and knew exactly where it was going. Micah was also aggressive and had great tackling form. Whether, it was making the tackle himself or assisting Micah was always in the action. Micah is a college prospect having an offer from Howard Payne University.
#23 Jadon Ducos OLB Jr 5’10 205 lbs
Another standout defensive outside linebacker is #23 Jadon Ducos. Jadon is fast, tenacious and aggressive. Jadon was always pursuing the ball and looking for someone to tackle. Jadon had great tackling form and decision making. Jadon knew exactly when to capitalize certain situations. One play Jadon read a pass play was able to get to into the backfield, overwhelm the quarterback and sack him.
#3 Bennie Qualls FS Sr 5’9 170 lbs
#3 Bennie Qualls is a free safety and one of his standout traits is his aggression. Whenever, I saw Bennie make a tackle he made it count. Bennie had a lot of big tackles during the game, but the two tackles that stood out to me was when he knocked down a receiver as soon as they caught the ball and when he sacked the quarterback.
