The Class 6A-D1 state championship is set for 1PM on December 4th at UCO. Defending champion and top-ranked Jenks is once again in the championship game and they’ll see a familiar face on the other sideline. Rival and second-ranked Union will attempt to dethrone the Trojans and capture the gold ball. Prep Redzone Oklahoma will have the most in-depth championship preview and state title game content that you will find anywhere! In this post, we take a look at the players you need to know about for the defending champion Trojans going into the title game!
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="38697" first="AJ" last="Brown"] - 2022 Defensive Lineman</strong></span>
When you look at the stats for Jenks, senior defensive tackle [player_tooltip player_id="38697" first="AJ" last="Brown"] doesn’t jump off the sheet at you. Because they haven’t figured out a stat for absolutely causing havoc in the backfield. When you watch the senior standout play, you can’t help but be impressed by his combination of power and quickness as he’s able to push an opponent back or simply get around him by using a quick first step. Brown is a standout on this Jenks defense where the front seven will be very important against Union’s run game.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="101263" first="Cade" last="Stacy"] - 2022 Defensive Back</strong></span>
Union’s strength is the running game but when they pass, they’ll have to know where senior standout [player_tooltip player_id="101263" first="Cade" last="Stacy"] is at all times. The senior cornerback has been outstanding over the last two seasons and has locked down his side of the field when he’s needed to. Stacy has two interceptions on the seasons and is also near the top of the charts in pass breakups for this Jenks defense that has been one of the best units in 6A-1 football this season. Not many opposing quarterbacks have had success against this secondary.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="61129" first="Colemon" last="Thurber"] - 2022 Defensive Lineman</strong></span>
The term "underrated" gets thrown around a lot when it comes to prospects but we have no idea why more schools aren’t going after Jenks standout [player_tooltip player_id="61129" first="Colemon" last="Thurber"], who has been an absolute wrecking ball for the Jenks defense this season. He leads the team in tackles for loss with 16 and has nearly 50 quarterback hurries. It hasn’t mattered where Thurber has lined up, he’s won the majority of his match-ups and has lived in the opposing backfield. Just like with Brown, Thurber will be key against Union’s rushing attack.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="160658" first="Glenny" last="Jones"] - 2022 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back</strong></span>
On the other side of [player_tooltip player_id="101263" first="Cade" last="Stacy"] is [player_tooltip player_id="160658" first="Glenny" last="Jones"] at the other cornerback spot. Back in the summer, we felt like Jones was primed to have a breakout season for the Trojans after watching him on the 7v7 circuit and that’s exactly how this year played out. Whether it’s on offense or defense, Jones has been a playmaker for the Trojans and will certainly have a big role in the title game on Saturday. He’s been one of their leading receivers on offense and then a shutdown corner on the defensive side of the ball.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="47955" first="Jaiden" last="Carroll"] - 2023 Running Back</strong></span>
We knew coming into the season that running back [player_tooltip player_id="47955" first="Jaiden" last="Carroll"] was one of the better running backs in his class and he’s proven that once again this season after transferring from Booker T Washington. With over 1,100 yards and 17 touchdowns, Carroll has been a steady presence in the Jenks backfield as they bring their young quarterback along. The only question around Carroll is his health as the junior standout did not play in the semifinal win over Mustang. All indications are that he’ll be ready to go.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="157457" first="Jalyn" last="Stanford"] - 2023 Running Back/Defensive Back</strong></span>
The same question about Carroll can be asked about fellow junior standout [player_tooltip player_id="157457" first="Jalyn" last="Stanford"]. The two-way star did not play in the semifinal as well but again, the indication is that he will play in the title game. Stanford has been electric when he’s in the game on the offensive side of the ball. He’s run for more than 500 yards and nine touchdowns on the year but he’s also a star at safety on this Jenks defense. With Carroll and Stanford, the Trojans have had one of the top running back duos in the state this year.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="158438" first="Joey" last="Havir"] - 2022 Defensive Back</strong></span>
A lot of what we wrote about [player_tooltip player_id="61129" first="Colemon" last="Thurber"] in terms of being an underrated defensive lineman can be doubled up right here with senior standout defensive back [player_tooltip player_id="158438" first="Joey" last="Havir"]. He’s part of a secondary that is so talented and he’s somewhat flown under the radar but should not moving forward. Havir is a hard-hitting safety that can completely change a game in the blink of an eye. He leads the team in forced and recovered fumbles and will look to be an impact player in the title game on Saturday.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="160663" first="Max" last="Paskvan"] - 2022 Kicker</strong></span>
We had to have someone representing special teams because how many times have we seen one of these Jenks-Union games come down to the wire or special teams played a huge role? The Trojans might have the edge in the kicking department with senior kicker [player_tooltip player_id="160663" first="Max" last="Paskvan"], one of the better kickers in the state’s 2022 class. This game could certainly come down to making or missing a field goal and Paskvan has shown he has a big leg and can really boot it so he had to be one of the players to watch.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="188014" first="Shaker" last="Reisig"] - 2025 Quarterback</strong></span>
How will the freshman respond to the biggest stage in Oklahoma high school football? We’ll find out on Saturday as freshman sensation [player_tooltip player_id="188014" first="Shaker" last="Reisig"] brings the Trojans into Edmond looking to pencil his name into the Jenks football legacy. He’s thrown for nearly 1,500 yards and 18 touchdowns while completing nearly 70 percent of his passes. There’s no doubt that Jenks is a run-first team this year but when they need to throw it, Reisig will need to continue to be efficient and avoid mistakes.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="98178" first="Ty" last="Walls"] - 2023 Wide Receiver</strong></span>
And when Reisig does throw it, more times than not it’s been to junior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="98178" first="Ty" last="Walls"]. The junior standout has emerged as the top receiver in this Trojan offense and leads them in receptions, yards and touchdowns. He has nearly 1,000 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns on the season and is looking to have a big game on Saturday. Jenks has a few weapons in this offense but Walls has been one of the more consistent deep threats that the Trojans have been able to rely on week after week.
<span style="font-size: 18pt;"><strong>OTHER NAMES TO KNOW </strong></span>
