Players of the Week
West Hart, Peyton Panthers (RB)(Sr.)(27) – Hart had himself a very dominant showing in the Panthers’ 24-13 win over the Banning Lewis Academy Stallions. For the night, Hart accounted for 245 yards and 2 touchdowns on 20 carries (12.3 YPC), while also adding 69 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown. In case that wasn’t enough, Hart also added 5 tackles, a tackle for a loss, and a pass deflection on defense. When you put on the film, you can see Hart displays great top end foot speed in the open field, often pulling away from 2nd and 3rd level defenders. Very elusive runner in the open field that can find space quickly. Displays good lateral agility when working the edge, which is what anchors his elusive running style. Shows a good ability to catch the ball out of the back field, often creating a matchup problem with LBs because of his speed and lateral agility. Hart isn’t currently receiving a ton of recruiting interest because of his level of competition, but he’ll definitely be worth following in the last few weeks of 1A football.
Jake Hamric, Steamboat Springs Sailors (QB)(Sr.)(8) – Despite the Sailors’ 62-26 beat down at the hands of the Palisade Bulldogs, Hamric did everything he could to keep the Sailors’ in the game and in the process was the state’s leading passer from week 9. Against the Bulldogs, Hamric went 25 of 38 (66%) for an outstanding 390 yards, 4 touchdowns, and a QBR of 123.8. When you look at Hamric, you can see on film he is a poised, intelligent QB that takes what the defense gives him. This being evidenced by the fact that 7 different receivers had multiple catches and over 25 yards receiving, with 4 different receivers scoring touchdowns against the Bulldogs. Shows good accuracy on throws to all levels of the field, with ball placement often allowing his receivers to create after the catch. Not deadly as a runner but mobile enough in the pocket to buy enough time for him to find receivers open downfield. Consistently good decision maker in the pocket that doesn’t force throws that lead to turnovers. While Hamric isn’t receiving much attention in the recruiting world, he’ll certainly look to finish his last season with the Sailors strong.
Jordan Rechel, Fairview Knights (WR)(Fr.)(28) – Rechel is only the second freshman this season to make this list, ironically enough, joining his teammate and QB Bekkem Kritza as the only two. In the Knights 36-24 win over the Poudre Impalas, Rechel posted 172 yards receiving on 9 catches (19.1 YPR) for 3 touchdowns and also added 2 rushing touchdowns as well. When turn on the tape, you can see that Rechel is the prototypical slot receiver. Compact stature (5’10, 160 lbs) with elite short area quickness when working underneath or outside. Excellent top end foot speed that can take the top off of the defense when working deeper routes against nickel corners and safeties. Elusive runner after the catch, consistently eluding multiple defenders after receptions on screens, mesh concepts, and when working the intermediate area of the field. Shows a quick and lethal release at the line that can beat most opposing DBs locked in man coverage. Good tracking ability when working back to under-thrown passes, showing the ability to undercut the defender and high-point the ball. While it’s too early in Rechel’s career to know his recruiting outlook, it’s pretty clear he’s starting it out about as well as you can. Leading the state in receiving for week 9 as a freshman will definitely create some buzz.
