The final week of the regular season is here and there are some games that will determine conference titles. Some of those games will be Top 10 matchups, bringing intrigue to these showdowns.
Center at Lincoln College Prep
This game pits the Class 3 No. 9-ranked Center Yellowjackets at the Class 4 No. 6-ranked Lincoln College Prep Blue Tigers. Center is 5-2 but the two losses are by a combined six points. The Yellowjackets have 1,000-yard rusher [player_tooltip player_id="185385" first="Jacorey" last="Love"] (1,122 yards, 16 TDs), while QB [player_tooltip player_id="217662" first="Joseph" last="Vick"] has passed for just less than 2,000 yards (1,987) and has thrown 20 TDs compared to 4 INTs. LCP is 8-0, the second most wins for the team through the past decade. Key players to watch for the Blue Tigers tonight are QB [player_tooltip player_id="206399" first="Zackary" last="Shelby"] (750 yards, 9 TDs), RB [player_tooltip player_id="203583" first="John" last="Price"] (856 yards, 14 TDs) and WR [player_tooltip player_id="203584" first="Deaven" last="Roberson"] (429 yards, 5 TDs).
Liberty North at Blue Springs South
This game is big for two different reasons for both teams. Liberty North is 6-1 overall and have won six in a row and a win here will secure the Suburban Conference Gold Division title. However, South is looking to snap a winless season and an 0-9 record facing a team that is ranked No. 1 in Class 6. LB [player_tooltip player_id="172304" first="Melvin" last="Laster"] had 10 tackles, a sack and three TFLs for Liberty North last week, while fellow LB Kaden Durso had six tackles, 3.5 TLFs and an interception. Blue Springs South QB [player_tooltip player_id="181615" first="Cash" last="Parker"] passed for 263 yards and five TDs last week in a loss to rival Blue Springs, but the team scored a season-high 35 points. WR Alex Isrealite had five catches for 146 yards and two TDs.
Mid-Buchanan at West Platte
The KCI Conference champion will be determined tonight in Weston. Mid-Buchanan is 8-0 and ranked No. 2 in Class 1, while West Platte is 7-1 and ranked No. 8 in Class 1. The Bluejays will have to win to claim a share of the title but that is a step in the right direction after a total of seven combined wins the last three years. West Platte has a three-headed rushing attack that has been the catalyst of the success, led by Emmett Sullivan’s 531 yards and nine TDs. Trent Taylor had 516 yards and eight TDs, while Cameron Williams has 337 and scored four TDs. The Dragons defense features LB [player_tooltip player_id="96269" first="Cage" last="Burns"], who has put up solid numbers across the board this season with 55 tackles, 13 TFLs, three sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, one interception, two pass breakups and one touchdown. DL Wade Stanton, a state champion wrestler, is a force inside with a team-high 17 TFLs and six sacks, one behind the team leader Lane Leader.
Odessa at Harrisonville
Odessa fell to No. 5 in Class 3 after suffering its first regular season loss since 2018. Odessa is known for running the ball but didn’t reach 100 yards against Excelsior Springs. Standout RB [player_tooltip player_id="96151" first="Blake" last="Heitman"] had nine carries for 20 yards before leaving with an injury. The Bulldogs turned to passing and Boston Sanders had seven catches for 136 yards and two scores. Harrisonville is 4-3 and at one point was a top-10 team but is coming off a 12-8 win over Oak Grove. QB Espen Glenn threw for 105 yards, ran for 27 yards and two TDs on offense and had six tackles, one TFL and one interception.
Lee’s Summit North at Lee’s Summit West
North is still in the running for the Suburban Gold trophy if they win and Blue Springs South beats Liberty North. The Broncos, ranked No. 3 in Class 6, is coming off a 30-0 win over Park Hill. QB [player_tooltip player_id="171825" first="Tre" last="Baker"] threw for 191 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Earlier this week he announced he is decommitting from Abilene Christian. West enters with a 4-4 mark but have struggled since opening 3-0. Last week, in a loss to No. 1 Liberty North, QB Jaden Hines ran for 92 yards and a pair of scores and threw for 34 more.
