Bethel suffered a disappointing setback this past Thursday. But with their physical team, they still have an interesting roster capable of making noise as the playoffs approach.
Corey Metscher Corey Metscher 6'0" | 205 lbs | LB Bethel | 2022 State OK , 2022 RB/LB
Bethel’s top player made his most noise on offense. As a burly bellcow back, he showed good feet and short area quickness when changing directions against defenders on interior runs. Metscher’s best example of this was Bethel’s most explosive play of the game in the first half. He took a simple interior run, found a lane outside and cut it outside for 30+ yard gain. His combination of strength and quick feet, also served him well as a linebacker. Which is likely where he’ll standout at the next level.
John Allred, 2023 RB/LB
Joining Metscher on both sides of the ball is the quicker junior. Allred often exploded outside as a running back and as a linebacker with a good burst. On defense he did a good job of containing edge runs with his pursuit speed. On the edge he was a good tackler in space, with low and good form on wrap up tackles.
John Gordon, 2022 WR/DB
A big target, when Bethel was able to get their passing game going they were finding the tall senior. On defense he was often playing deep safety, where he showed good reaction time. He recorded a first half interception off a tip drill reaction. While also being a willing tackler when coming up in run support, keeping Community Christian from ever really getting their rushing attack going.
Dominick Conteras, 2022 OL/DL
One of the biggest players on the field, Conteras was a load on both sides of the ball. He often drew double teams and would have to beat two blockers in his pursuit of the QB. When attacking on defense, he engages quickly with quick and strong hands to beat the opposing lineman. His best play of the night came on a sack, where he fought through two blocks and then with a single hand corralled the QB.
