Week 7 is packed for Minnesota HS football. Many big matchups with playoff seeding coming into play. Here are my top matchups this week!
#6 Centennial @ #9 Minnetonka- This should be one of the best matchups of the entire year! Centennial(4-2) has won their last 4. They love running the ball. Between two rushers Liu, and Nielsen Jr. they have over 800 rushing yds and 8 TD. Sophomore QB [player_tooltip player_id="105383" first="Daylen" last="Cummings"] has thrown for 207 yds and 3 TD but has ran for 327 yds and 2 TD. Their D has 4 INT, 1 pick-six but only 1 sack. Senior Reese Neudahl leads the team in tackles with 62.
Minnetonka(5-1) is making a comeback. After a 1-5 season last year, they have determination to turn it around. With their only loss is to #4 ranked maple grove, they haven’t looked back after winning their past 3. Senior [player_tooltip player_id="242442" first="Will" last="Martin"] has great targets in his WR’s. Seniors Tyler Lien, Joseph Gendreau, and gopher commit [player_tooltip player_id="18525" first="Cade" last="Conzemius"] have 11 TD and 725 yds. These WR are very explosive and shifty. Keep an eye out Friday night for the S and DB of centennial trying to lock them down.
#7 Chaska @ #6 Armstrong- Undefeated Chaska travels to Armstrong in a huge battle. Armstrong(5-1), coming off 3 straight, including one over Chan, is on a roll. And they are an offense heavy team. Over 1,300 yds in the air with 16 TD, [player_tooltip player_id="112064" first="Jamen" last="Malone"] is having a breakout year. He has help in the backfield with his RB’s having just under 1k rushing yards is a threat to the defense. On the other side, 7 sacks and 7 INT shows they’re a threat to the opposing team.
Chaska (6-0) is led by senior RB Jack Boyle. Averaging over 130 YPG, and 13 TD on the season, he plows through the defense. Senior WR duo Karver Miller and Collin Dussault have combined for 6 TD and over 500 yds. QB Brayden Sanders has rushed for over 200 yds and 2 TD so he can keep the D on their feet all game. Ben Bowe is the most dominant defensive player. 3 INT, 3 sacks, 3 TFL and 37 total tackles shows he’s all over the field for the Hawks. This game could go high scoring or low scoring, we’ll just have to see.
#10 Chanhassen(5A) @ #5 Holy Angles(4A)- Holy Angles(5-1) has a few things going for them. A good offense and being the favorite in most of their games. A RB in [player_tooltip player_id="18427" first="Emmett" last="Johnson"] who has almost 1,500 rushing yds and 24 TD is their main source of offense. Their QB only has 14 completions in 6 games because defenses cannot stop Johnson. On the other side of the ball, 8 INT poses a threat to QB’s. [player_tooltip player_id="116273" first="Ryan" last="Bercich"] has 70 tackles-leading the team.
Chanhassen(4-2) Is very even on both sides of the ball and is determined to finish the season strong. After a dominant win in Waconia last week, they will try to continue that this week. QB [player_tooltip player_id="213249" first="Grant" last="Muffenbier"] has had his playbook opened up a bit. Now with 1,152 passing yards he uses his stellar WR core to his advantage. [player_tooltip player_id="49835" first="Charlie" last="Coenen"], [player_tooltip player_id="112048" first="Josh" last="Och"], have the majority of the yds and are both explosive after the catch both averaging over 100 yds after it. RB’s Woods and Talamantes take the bulk of the load in the backfield with Kirchoff taking reps as well. Defense for the Storm has been the main point all season for coach Nelson. 13 sacks and 6 INT while quiet they’re dominant. Alex Carstens and [player_tooltip player_id="105369" first="Sam" last="Macy"] coming off the edge is a threat that the coaches love.
