Season Recap
Rochester Adams
Adams has earned the #5 ranking in the D1 playoffs, and nobody can convince me otherwise. This team began the season defeating the defending state champion West Bloomfield in a dominant fashion, and they’ve been on their A-game all season. The Highlanders are a team that began the season hot and have yet to cool down, and I believe their veer offense can and will get them very far in this year’s playoffs. I believe they match up very well against first-round opponent Lapeer, and I would favor them in every game up until the semifinals. If they do earn a semifinal spot, I believe they can be #1 Rockford’s worst nightmare as the Rams struggle handling the option offense. I’m incredibly excited to see what the OAA White champions are able to do this postseason. Adams showcased the best offense and defense of the league, with 31.8PPG and 10.7PAPG.
Offensive MVP – Parker Picot
Defensive MVP – Marco DiCresce
Rochester
A team that got promoted to the White after winning the Blue last season, Rochester eeked out 2nd place in what was a wild ride. Rochester won their close games, winning 3 games by 10 points or less, while their losses were usually by way of a blowout. Rochester narrowly missed the playoffs, and they look to improve on their record next season with lots of returning talent. This team scored 23.1PPG (3rd) while giving up 23.6PPG (3rd)
Offensive MVP – Alex Bueno Alex Bueno 5'11" | 175 lbs | QB Rochester | 2023 State MI
Defensive MVP – Jaiden Bolden
North Farmington
The Raiders of North Farmington had a disappointing campaign after a sensational playoff run in 2020. They started off looking good at 3-0, then went on to lose their final 6 games of the season. This team scored 29.3PPG (2nd) and gave up 27.2PPG (4th)
Offensive MVP – Aaron Rice Aaron Rice 6'4" | 185 lbs | WR North Farmington | 2022 MI
Defensive MVP – Jasper Beeler Jasper Beeler 6'0" | 165 lbs | DB North Farmington | 2022 MI
Oak Park
One of the most peculiar teams in the state, Oak Park has another “down year” going 2-6, while losing 4 games by one possession or less. Oak Park has talent, and that was showcased in a baffling semifinal run in the 2020 playoffs after a winless regular season. Unfortunately for Oak Park, not every team got a chance to compete in the playoffs, and are thus eliminated. Oak Park scored 18.5PPG and 23PAPG.
Offensive MVP – Sykunie Watson Sykunie Watson 5'9" | 175 lbs | RB Oak Park | 2022 MI II
Defensive MVP – Glen Cross
Groves
Preseason rankings had Groves ranked very highly, and they turned out to be one of the most disappointing teams this season. I wasn’t able to watch this team very closely throughout the season, though a large 2020 class in addition to last season’s scandal may have something to do with this year’s performance. Groves scored a league-low 13.1PPG while giving up 29 per game (5th).
Offensive MVP – Jaden Mangham Jaden Mangham 6'3" | 185 lbs | ATH Birmingham Groves | 2022 State MI
Defensive MVP – Jaden Mangham Jaden Mangham 6'3" | 185 lbs | ATH Birmingham Groves | 2022 State MI
Seaholm
I’m eating my words right now from my first few articles ranking Seaholm as one of the best in the White. After graduating the vast majority of their starters in 2020, the Maples had a rough year with fresh faces. They were not good, scoring just 15PPG while giving up a league-high 34.3 points per. I’m hoping my alma mater can get on the right track come next season, and that can’t come without an excellent culture led by role-model student leaders.
Offensive MVP – Jack Trinch
Defensive MVP – Jacob Vance
