In an important game for both teams, Liberty traveled east to Chaparral and was able to secure a W 41-37. Tons of talent on both sides of the ball in this matchup, and both QB’s from each team flashed big potential and had themselves a solid night. Take a look at the top offensive players of the game:

Bruzon got the QB1 role in a hostile environment at Chaparral, and definitely did not disappoint. He went 21-26 for 255 yards and 2 TD’s, while adding 46 yards on the ground with 2 more TD’s, which included the game winner on a short run with around 2 minutes left. Bruzon proved to be an absolute playmaker, as he frequently extended plays and eluded the Chaparral pass rush to find receivers downfield. He flashed solid velocity on a few tight window throws, and also showed the ability to use touch and finesse throws over or in between defenders. He throws well out of play action and made quick and decisive run-pass reads on RPO’s. His ability to make something happen on his feet opened up a ton for that Liberty offense, as Bruzon had a very impressive night and holds big potential going forward.

Silbor did a great job on Friday night, frequently hitting his receivers with timing and placement as he connected on his first 17 passes. Excellent ball security on the night as he didn’t force throws, but put the ball only in receivers reach to frequently give them a shot to make a play, and he also did a good job hitting his checkdowns when he went through his progression. Good pocket presence on the night as he flashed good anticipation for routes to develop while remaining collected in the pocket. He read coverages very well and took advantage of the flats in the first half, which eventually opened up an opportunity to take a shot deep in which he connected with [player_tooltip player_id="210178" first="Grady" last="Hickey"] for a 72 yard TD on a vert.
[player_tooltip player_id="210178" first="Grady" last="Hickey"], WR, Chaparral ’22
Hickey’s productive season continues, as he hauled in 13 receptions for 158 yards and 2 TD’s on Friday night. Smart and efficient receiver with the ability to make plays from the slot, outsides, or even lined up in the backfield. Sharp and clean route runner from wherever he lines up with a nice burst out of the top of his route. He possesses loose hips with good overall flexibility which helps him get in and out of his breaks effectively. Hickey flashed solid top end speed to take the top off the Liberty defense on a 72 yard vert, and has continued to show his big play ability every week. He possesses good body control to protect himself from big hits, and is a big time sleeper ’22 WR to get on your radar.
[player_tooltip player_id="100680" first="Kane" last="Metts-Terrell"], WR, Liberty ’22
After suffering a broken leg in the summer, Metts-Terrell made his 2021 debut this week and was able to make a significant impact on a "welcome back" game. He had 2 receptions for 56 yards, which included about a 20 yard TD on a post. His willingness to block and make a difference in the run game is something you love to see from a kid at WR. Scrappy player as he did a good job sustaining and controlling blocks while split out with a demeanor to take his opponent out of the play, and blocks til the whistle. I really like the way this kid plays and understands the receiver position, and an overall an impressive first game back for Metts-Terrell.
[player_tooltip player_id="165904" first="Zach" last="Wallace"], RB, Liberty ’23
Love the way this kid runs the football. He hits the hole with a purpose and brings good physicality and pop with him on every play. Impressive balance to frequently stay up after initial and even second contact, which helped him spring loose to punch in Liberty’s first score of the night. Solid vision overall with the ability to bounce runs outside if he needs to, and he flashed a nice stiff arm to get himself to the sticks and pick up a clutch first down.
