The beginning of the game was going back and forth with both teams moving the ball downfield but stalling out their drives ended the 1st Quarter with a 0-0 score. This all changed in the 2nd Quarter when Whitney Young goes for a Field Goal within the 20 and it got BLOCKED. This shifted momentum into Taft’s favor which they utilized in driving down the field resulting in Ryan Porebski Ryan Porebski 6'1" | 210 lbs | LB Taft | 2022 State IL (along with his O-Line) keeping feet driving to get into the endzone putting them on the board 7-0 with 6:43 left in the 2nd. Keeping this momentum, on the next drive Freshman Jaiden Padilla Jaiden Padilla 5'8" | 190 lbs | RB Taft | 2025 State IL takes the rock 35 yards for a TD bringing the score to 14-0 with 2:36 left in the 2nd. With a HUGE return from Taft’s Erik Tomanek it sets up Taft in GREAT starting field position as the 2nd Quarter is winding down. They drive downfield and are able to run a QB run with Barah Abad Barah Abad 6'2" | 185 lbs | QB Taft Highschool | 2023 State IL in the final seconds of the half where he gets tackled just before the endzone from Whitney Young defenders falling inches short. Here’s where things started going into Whitney Young’s favor, starting the 3rd Quarter there was a bobbled snap from Taft which was recovered by Whitney Young giving them great starting field positon. They capitilaize on this with Pat McHale taking the rock into the endzone putting the Dolphins on the board, Taft 14 Whitney Young 6 with 9:01 left in the 3rd. For the rest of the 3rd Quarter no points were scored as it turned into a defensive battle, this would change in the 4th. #12 Pat McHale 22′ QB/DB 6’1 175 Twitter
Mr. McHale is a mobile QB that can make somethingout of nothing, this is seen when he pulls the ball down to scramble if nothingis open downfield. When he runs the option, he isn’t afraid to lower his shoulder to fight for extra yards and has quick acceleratoin to turn the corner. He has the ability to get the ball off under pressure throughout this game and got the ball out quickly when he ran RPOs. Mr. McHale also plays Safety, which is where he’s better fit to play at the collegiate level as he uses his speed to cover sideline to sideline and can play the alley. #77 Tomi Bisiriyu 22′ OL/DL 6’5 290 Twitter
Mr. Bisiriyu has a good frame to him standing at 6’5 290 and has room to add weight as well. He’s able to hold his own one-on-one in pass protection where he stays square to the defensive end forcing the outside rush. In run blocking, he gets hands-on and keeps his feet driving to play through the whistle. He also can play defensive tackle where he fills gaps in run support clogging up the running lanes. This young man has a lot of untapped potential to him, if he gets into the right college program he can develop his skillset further and end up at Left Offensive Tackle or even switching him to defensive tackle depending on the team’s needs. More of a Raw prospect here, but one to take a look at if he fits your needs.
#3 Anthony Hood Anthony Hood 6'0" | 180 lbs | WR Whitney Young | 2024 State IL 24′ WR/DB 6’0 172 Twitter
Mr. Hood caught my eye early in this game as he would load his hips before bursting off the line of scrimmage to stalk block downfield. This trait alone made me curious to see how he would fare in the passing game and what skillset he has in this area. Once Whitney Young started airing the ball out and getting it into his hands I was very impressed. His quickness off the ball gives him a step on the defender which he used to break him off at the top of the route and works back towards the ball to come up with a very important 4th down conversion on a comeback route. On deep shots downfield, he simply outruns the defender and high points the ball to make the contested catch downfield. On defense, he has the closing speed to cover sideline to sideline which he uses to make open-field tackles. Overall, a young WR that is only going to continue to develop over the course of his high school career and hone his craft with this coaching staff.
#8 Sam Wyatt 22′ TE/LB 6’0 208 Twitter
Mr. Wyatt didn’t start making a big impact in the passing game until later in the game when Whitney Young started to air it out. He proved that he’s able to hold onto the catch after taking a big hit and can make the catch in traffic. Towards the end of the game, he went up for a 50/50 ball between three defenders where he high-pointed the ball to come down with the impressive contested catch.
