The offenses looked great but that didn't stop some defenders from making big plays. We're highlighting some of the best performances on the defensive side of the ball from this past Friday.
Cj Crawford - Beavercreek - SS - 6'1" 205 lbs
Beavercreek got beatdown on Friday but that didn't stop Crawford from balling out. His side of the defense he was directing only gave up 37-yards. They avoided Crawford but he still making the plays. He was always by the ball when the whistle blew and he finished the night with 14 tackles, 3 TFL, and an interception. It was a great performance surrounded by a night where everyone else struggled to find their rhythm.
Mason Penrod - Miamisburg - DB - 6'0" 190 lbs
Penrod helped lead Miamisburg's defense to an incredible night. Everyone on that side of the ball was making big plays. Penrod made his big impact while jumping a screen pass. He read it like a book, jumped the screen, and raced the ball all the way down to the 1. Miamisburg scored on the very next play and they took the lead. They never looked back after that moment either.
Darian Leslie - Dunbar - DB - 5'11" 153 lbs
Right when things started to look like Dunbar was going to give up a TD on a key drive, Leslie made a huge play. They threw the ball up for their big possession WR and Leslie went up and took it away from him. Not only did he intercept the ball, but he also raced it back 34-yards and put the offense in scoring position.
Lamar Payton - Dunbar - DB - 6'0" 160 lbs
Payton is the leader of the backend and he might've given out the biggest hit I've seen so far this year. Trotwood was driving and they were inside the 5-yard line. Payton came down, crashed the edge, and blew up the RB and he forced the fumble. Dunbar recovered and prevented a score on the drive. Payton finished the night with 11 tackles along with his forced fumble.
