On Monday, we had our final prospect ranking update as we updated the 2022 Top 150. Now, we start diving into those rankings and identifying some of the biggest movers and new faces within the ranking update. In this post, it’s part one of a three part feature, looking at the prospects who have risen their rankings the most. For all of the prospects in these three features, they had their ranking raised by nearly 20 spots and for several of them, it was much more than that. For a complete look at the Top 150, Click Here.
[player_tooltip player_id="38720" first="Corey" last="Metscher"] - Linebacker - Bethel
(Went From #101 To #58)
On the day that this is published, it’ll be the same day that we get a chance to see the Bethel two-way star [player_tooltip player_id="38720" first="Corey" last="Metscher"] in action as Bethel hosts Community Christian for a Thursday night outing. Metscher has been one of the best players in 2A football and you can’t pick which side he’s more valuable on. When it comes to Metscher as a prospect, it’s pretty simple as he’s going to be a linebacker at the next level. However, you can’t deny what he’s been able to do at the running back position this year for the Wildcats. We’ve liked Metscher for a few years now considering he’s an ironman-type player and rarely takes a play off. When it comes to his abilities at the linebacker position, he can do just about everything you want from that position. Metscher has made a massive leap up from #101 to #58 in the recent ranking update. And him jumping up makes things even more complicated at a linebacker position that is already stacked within the state’s 2022 class. However, the Bethel standout has earned his spot there and is right there in the same conversation as some of the other guys. We’re looking forward to seeing how Metscher plays on Thursday night because not only is it a big game with playoff implications, it’s a match-up that features an opponent with a few stars on their sideline as well.
[player_tooltip player_id="160658" first="Glenny" last="Jones"] - Athlete - Jenks
(Went From #91 To #62)
We go from a small school two-way star to a big school two-way star. Jenks always figures out a way to get their best athletes on the field on offense and defense. That’s a big reason why they have all of those state championships, including the 2020 6A-1 gold ball. The latest example of that is senior standout [player_tooltip player_id="160658" first="Glenny" last="Jones"]. Coming into the season, Jones was going to be one of the shutdown corners for the Jenks defense and you knew what to expect from him on that side of the ball. But throughout the season, Jones has emerged as the home run threat for the Trojan offense at the wide receiver position. Jenks is without a doubt a run-first team with their two-headed monster of [player_tooltip player_id="47955" first="Jaiden" last="Carroll"] and [player_tooltip player_id="157457" first="Jalyn" last="Stanford"]. However, when the Trojans do throw the ball, and they need a big play from the passing game, more times than not, it’s Jones on the other end of the deep ball. We mentioned over the offseason that Jones could be the perfect replacement for a player like [player_tooltip player_id="38514" first="Jayden" last="Patrick"], who was a two-way star for the Trojans during their state championship run a year ago. And Jones has taken that opportunity and ran with it, literally. He’s earned his recent ranking update, jumping up 29 spots and getting closer to the Top 50 for overall prospects in the 2022 class.
[player_tooltip player_id="55157" first="Jack" last="Puckett"] - Linebacker - Bixby
(Went From #119 To #22)
So when we started to write about Bixby linebacker [player_tooltip player_id="55157" first="Jack" last="Puckett"], we were going to package it around the fact that he made the biggest jump out of all the prospects in the 2022 ranking update. He jumped up 97 spots and became a Top 25 prospect and one of the better defensive prospects available in the state’s class. After more evaluation, we’ve come to this conclusion and it seems pretty obvious in hindsight. He never should have been ranked so low in the first place. Puckett is the leader of a Bixby defense that is one of the best in the state. Similar to his teammate and reigning Prep Redzone Player Of The Year, [player_tooltip player_id="38679" first="Braylin" last="Presley"], it seems like Puckett is always performing at his best in the biggest games of the season. When the spotlight is the brightest, you can count on Puckett to have a standout game for the Spartans on defense. Puckett has not only been one of the top linebackers this season, but he’s emerged as one of the top defensive players int he state. And because of all of those things, it’s even more of a head-scratcher on what is taking colleges so long to figure out that Puckett should be at the top of their list when it comes to linebackers in this area. We took too long to figure that out, hopefully colleges don’t make that same mistake.
[player_tooltip player_id="38725" first="Nate" last="Ratcliff"] - Quarterback - Adair
(Went From #123 To #102)
Our only quarterback on this breakdown is Adair’s southpaw [player_tooltip player_id="38725" first="Nate" last="Ratcliff"]. The lefty has been a standout for the Warriors since early on in his career and continued to do what many Adair quarterbacks have done in the past and that’s putting up monster numbers each year. Despite that, Ratcliff’s recruitment is still up in the air and he’s one of several quarterbacks in this 2022 class that are waiting for their opportunity to play at the next level. In the recent ranking update, Ratcliff made the jump up 21 spots and is a borderline Top 100 prospect as of right now. He’s in the same group of quarterbacks like Sand Springs’ [player_tooltip player_id="101415" first="Ty" last="Pennington"] and Community Christian’s [player_tooltip player_id="189180" first="Boyce" last="McIntosh"]. There are four quarterbacks all grouped around that area of the rankings. Ratcliff certainly sticks out being a left-handed quarterback but the Warrior signal caller is still one of the better ones in this group. Similar to Pennington, Ratcliff has a ton of experience and has also seen plenty of success. We’ll be keeping an eye on Ratcliff immediately because he has a massive district clash with Rejoice Christian on Friday night with plenty on the line.
[player_tooltip player_id="64382" first="Oscar" last="Hammond"] - Wide Receiver - Collinsville
(Went From #67 To #39)
Everything we wrote about [player_tooltip player_id="55157" first="Jack" last="Puckett"] and his recruitment being a head scratcher can be copied and pasted right here with Collinsville wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="64382" first="Oscar" last="Hammond"]. Ever since we saw Hammond have a breakout season as a junior, we’ve been sold on him as not only a next level wide receiver, but a wide receiver that deserved some D1 looks. While his recruitment is still up in the air and that hasn’t necessarily happened, we haven’t changed our opinion on the Collinsville standout and that’s a big reason he made the recent jump up from #67 to #39 in the last ranking update. Hammond has size, speed, hand skills and is an incredibly tough individual. We’re even more impressed with him as a prospect this season as he’s been asked to do much more in the Collinsville offense with their star quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="51256" first="Andrew" last="Carney"] missing some significant time during district play. Hammond has not only picked up the slack, but he’s made sure that the Cardinals don’t miss a step, on their way to a potential district championship. Speaking of a district title, that’s what could be on the line on Friday night as the Cardinals host Pryor in a massive week nine affair. We expect Hammond to continue what he’s been doing and help lead his Cardinals to a win. Colleges who need a big and athletic receiver need to have Hammond at the top of their list when it comes to Oklahoma’s 2022 class.
