WR, Michael Norwood, 5’7, 150, Mentor
The Senior WR had an awesome game in week 5 as he caught 8 passes for 176 yards (22 ypc) and scored 3 touchdowns as Mentor was victorious 41-19 over Clarkson Football North (Canada). With the win, Mentor improved to 3-2. He plays as a slot WR. He uses his excellent quickness and hip fluidity to beat off coverage and break off his stem at a 45 degree angle on slant routes. He displays very good hands showing a very good catch radius with the ability to make the catch on passes that are thrown out of his strike zone. Once he makes the catch, he uses his very good play speed and acceleration to outrun LB and most DB. He shows very good power and contact balance as he can break tackles from larger DB or drag them for a few yards.
QB, Blake Benko, 6’1, 182, Cloverleaf
The Senior QB had a perfect game on Friday night. He completed all 8 of his passes for 178 yards (22.25 ypa) and 4 touchdowns. Cloverleaf was victorious on Friday night 48-0 over Field. With the win, Cloverleaf improved to 2-2. He quickly scans the defense and makes the correct read finding the open receiver almost immediately. He possesses a quick release with good arm strength as his passes have enough velocity to beat the coverage while showing the ability to throw the receiver open as he places the ball on the correct shoulder maximizing yards after the catch.
RB, Marco Cirigliano, 5’10, 175, Columbia
The Sophomore RB had a great game on Friday night as he scored 5 touchdowns while rushing for 74 yards on 19 carries and catching 2 passes for 54 yards. His play helped Columbia beat Brookside 42-6 to remain undefeated at 5-0. He shows very good vision as he quickly finds the open hole with very good burst and is able to accelerate to top speed very quickly when he enters the secondary. He displays very good elusiveness in the secondary as he uses his athletic ability to avoid tackles from LB and DB and shows the ability to gain significant yardage on his own.
DB, Glen Parker, 6’3, 175, Copley
The Senior DB played well last week as he made a key interception that was returned 88 yards for a touchdown as Copley defeated Kent Roosevelt 30-12. With the win, Copley improved to 2-3. He plays as a FS. Against the pass, he quickly keys and diagnoses the play while reading the QB. He uses his good play speed to get to the ball and shows good hands to make the interception with ease. Once the interception is made, he uses his athletic ability to outrun the offense for an impressive return. Against the run, he displays good instincts while taking a good angle in pursuit showing excellent form tackling ability as he squares up, plays at a very good pad level, wraps up the RB and drives with his good play strength as he makes the tackle.
DE/LB, Johnny Sellman, 6’2, 175, Berea-Midpark
The Senior EDGE rusher had a big game last week against Avon Lake. He had 3 sacks and forced a fumble. His play helped Berea-Midpark win the game 23-17 and improve to 3-2 on the year. An excellent pass rusher who fires out low with great burst off the ball, delivers a powerful strike to the frame of the much larger OT and uses his very good play strength and physical toughness to bullrush the OT a few yards into the backfield. He sheds the block easily and uses his very good motor and play speed in pursuit and finishes up with a punishing hit on the QB for the sack.
