Here is a look at this week’s top performers:
Owen Bill | Hunterdon Central
Bill averaged more than 25 yards a catch this past weekend as he hauled in 8 passes for 202 yards and two scores. His longest touchdown of the game came on an 82-yard catch early in the third quarter.
Analysis: The 6-foot-2, 180-pound receiver is a sure-handed receiver who runs great routes and has top-end speed that will allow him to get past defenders for large plays.
Charly Mullaly | Peddie
Mullaly was the favorite target of Frankie Farmer Frankie Farmer 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB Peddie | 2023 State NJ this past weekend as he caught 6 passes for 181 yards and a score. Mullaly scored on an 83-yard pass from Farmer in the 1st quarter of a 35-26 loss to Kiski School.
Analysis: Mullaly is a solid all-around receiver as he has soft hands, the ability to highpoint the ball and runs crisp routes. As one of the top playmakers for the Peddie offense, Mullaly does a nice job adjusting to throws.
Rick Rainey | Lyndhurst
Rainey caught 7 passes for 171 yards and a touchdown in Lyndhurst’s 42-14 victory over Garfield. He averaged 24.4 yards per catch which included a 45-yard touchdown. He also scored on a 49-yard rushing play in the first quarter.
Analysis: Rainey is a versatile back who catches a number of passes out of the backfield. He’s got good vision and mixes gears well depending on where he’s lined up and what route he’s running. Rainey thieves in the short to intermediate passing game and helps Lyndhurst move the chains with his short routes.
Dillon Kelly | Ramsey
Kelly averaged 42.5 yards per catch as he hauled in 4 catches for 170-yards and two touchdowns. He scored on passes of 61 and 78 yards in Ramsey’s 41-35 victory over West Milford.
Analysis: Kelly, who mostly lines up in the slot, is a mismatch for opposing linebackers as he’s a quick, shifty receiver who is deadly in space. He’s a natural hand catcher who is efficient with the ball in his hands.
Ben Hauser | Livingston
Hauser led the state in receptions as he caught 12 passes for 168 yards and a score in Livingston’s 28-13 loss to Roxbury. He also rushed the ball three times for 33 yards. Hauser now has 31 catches for 389 yards and two touchdowns through four games this season.
Analysis: Hauser, who is 6-foot-2, 185-pounds, does a good job with body control and using his size to fend off smaller defenders. He does a good job both coming back to the ball on shorter throws and high-pointing it on toss-ups.
