Marques Hicks Marques Hicks 5'9" | 195 lbs | RB Camden Catholic | 2023 State NJ RB, Camden Catholic
This young man was unquestionably the player of the game. Breaking off, three 30+ yard runs for three touchdowns with over 150 yards rushing to finish the game. Marcus Hick’s speed was on display early and often, and in this game didn’t have many forced missed tackles because no one could touch him on his way to the endzone. The Camden Catholic coaching staff did a superb job of calling zone runs that allowed him to get to the edge and utilize his speed in the open field where literally, no one could touch him on his way to a spectacular performance.
Kevin Burr Jr, QB Camden Catholic
Due to Camden Catholic’s dominance on the ground, they didn’t pass the ball much but when they did Kevin Burr Jr was very impressive attacking the deep portions of the field. On his first deep pass, he showed off his arm strength completing a post route that was stopped short of the goal line although the pass was just a tad late; he had enough zip on the ball to fit it in there for nice accurate deep completion. On his last deep completion of the game, he threw beautiful deep over route for a touchdown. Showing solid footwork, touch, decisiveness, and impressive arm strength. My key takeaways from watching this young man are his ability to be mobile, with good arm strength, has good size, and decisiveness. As he gets older and more reps with a consistent emphasis on footwork and throwing with touch and anticipation we could be seeing one of the top QBs in the 2023 class
Jarius Clark WR, Camden Catholic
This young man played both ways for the majority of the game and got into the action on a TD run from the running back position. He also had some very nice runs and looked very explosive. His impact was primarily felt on defense, but his impact was also seen on offense and deserves some love.
Scott Lynch Scott Lynch 6'3" | 205 lbs | QB Audubon | 2023 State NJ QB, Audubon
Audubon was clearly outmatched in this game, but their lone bright spot was their QB. He scored their only touchdown of the game and battled as much as he could. Like his fellow quarterback counterpart, he too has a big arm and the one specific throw caught my attention so much that it caused me to stop writing immediately. This is why I try to stay to the end of games because you never know when your going to see a trait from a player that’s absolutely eye-popping, and this young man’s arm strength was just that. Though this one pass was an incompletion there’s a lot that can be honed and taught to groom a good QB. This specific pass traveled at least 50 yards downfield and overthrew his receiver by a mile, but again, this screams raw traits that can be tamed. At 6’5 203 he showed that he also has the size, mobility, and arm talent to be a good QB. All young QBs have to improve their accuracy and decision-making on some level or another. If Scott Lynch Scott Lynch 6'3" | 205 lbs | QB Audubon | 2023 State NJ can hone in on those two things going forward he may be poised for a huge senior season.
