Players of the Week
Gavin Sawchuk Gavin Sawchuk RB Valor Christian | 2022 State CO , Valor Christian Eagles (RB)(Sr.)(27) – Sawchuk showed this past weekend why he is the highest rated player in the state of Colorado and one of the top players in the country for the 2022 class. In the Eagles 30-7 win over national prep powerhouse, the Oaks Christian Lions (Westlake Village, CA), Sawchuk accounted for an incredible 242 yards and 4 touchdowns on the ground. Turning to the tape, Sawchuk displays an explosive, one-cut running style that allows him to accelerate laterally and gain space from defenders with relative ease. Elite level foot speed allows him to hit an extra gear and pull away from just about any second and third level defender, even if a good angle is taken by the defender. Exceptionally thick and strong lower body allows him to maintain outstanding pad level while running through contact, giving him the ability to maintain his balance/low center of gravity at the point of contact. Brings great physicality behind his runs in between the tackles, not shying away from contact to finish runs falling forward. To say this kind of performance from Sawchuk wasn’t surprising would be an understatement. Nights like these have seemed routine for the four-star prospect since 2019 and that certainly looks to be no different in 2021.
Bekkem Kritza Bekkem Kritza 6'4" | 180 lbs | QB Santa Margarita Catholic | 2025 CA , Fairview Knights (QB)(Fr.)(8) – Kritza is the first underclassmen to make player of the week this season, as well as being the first freshman. While only having two varsity starts for Fairview under his belt, the frosh QB has quickly become the focal point of the offense, with this being evidence by the night he had against the Castle View Sabercats. Despite the Knight’s losing 38-21, Kritza was the second leading passer in the state for week 2 with a remarkable 357 yards passing and 3 touchdowns. Going to the film, you can see Kritza is a tall, long armed QB with a quick release that has excellent ball placement on deep and intermediate throws. Strong armed passer that can hit every level of the field with little to no difficulty, with his arm strength also contributing to his ability to squeeze throws into tight windows. Intelligent QB with the ability to read the rotation of the coverage shell and identify the holes in zone coverage underneath. While not lightning in a bottle athletically, he has outstanding pocket presence and enough mobility to avoid the rush and buy himself time to find a receiver down field. Good accuracy moving out of the pocket and throwing on the run/off-platform with varying arm angles to get the ball around defenders. Despite the loss last week, Kritza has been a significant bright spot for the Knight’s offense the last two weeks and will only get better as he gets more experience and the season goes on. Because of his age, Kritza doesn’t currently have a ton of recruiting looks but I can guarantee that will change in the coming years, as being named the starting QB of a 5A team as a freshman and putting up the numbers he has is certainly a great start. Bekkem Kritza Bekkem Kritza 6'4" | 180 lbs | QB Santa Margarita Catholic | 2025 CA is a name to remember for the class of 2025.
Josh Dunn Josh Dunn WR Broomfield | 2022 State CO , Broomfield Eagles (WR)(Sr.)(10) – Dunn was easily the best player in a losing effort for the Eagles and may have even been the best player on the field in general that night. Despite the 38-29 loss to the Longmont Trojans, Dunn had a dominant game recording 9 receptions for 176 yards and a touchdown. As a result of his performance, Dunn was the leading receiver in the state for week 2. With that being said, when you turn on the film, you can see Dunn is a tall, big-bodied receiver as he stands at 6’4 and 170lbs. Because of his size, he displays the ability to consistently win contested catches by boxing out and high pointing the ball out of reach from the defender. Deceptive athleticism allows him to pull away from second and third level defenders if given enough space. Good field awareness and body control allows him to tight-rope catches along the sideline/along the back line of the endzone. Large, strong hands allow him to rip the ball away from defenders as well as allow him to secure the ball well when arriving at the point of contact. While Dunn is a player that hasn’t garnered a ton of interest in recruiting, if he continues to dominate like he did against the Trojans, his size and production should be intriguing for any major program.
