Going into Week 2, this matchup looked to be one of the best games in the 4A ranks this season. Both teams were coming off blowout wins in Week 1, and Piper was looking for revenge from their meeting in 2020. This game exceeded any and every expectation, as it ended up being Game of the Year worthy. It was a back and forth second half that saw the Pirates win as time expired. Here are a few Top Performers (Unofficial Stats) from this thrilling Week 2 matchup.
[player_tooltip player_id="124494" first="Logan" last="Ladish"] – Piper, QB, Class of ’23
Ladish was undoubtedly the Player of the Game in this one. The first half was a roller coaster for him, but things began to click in the second half. He ended the night with over 200 yards through the air with three touchdown tosses, and over 100 yards on the ground. His three-touchdown performance was capped off by a ridiculous 54-yard game winning Hail Mary to senior Ethan Walker.
Gage Hayden – Eudora, ATH, Class of ‘22
Hayden also had an impressive dual-threat performance. He caught Piper’s defense off guard a few times connecting on deep throws to sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="146143" first="Adrion" last="Seals"] and junior [player_tooltip player_id="122458" first="Jaden" last="Hamm"]. Hayden managed to produce over 250 yards of total offense with two touchdown throws. It was a great effort from the dynamic senior in a tough outcome.
[player_tooltip player_id="88872" first="Brayden" last="Beerbower"] – Eudora, RB, Class of ‘22
It’s safe to say the Cardinals’ offense ran through Beerbower in this contest, as the bruising fullback carried the ball 29 times. He helped set up those long throws from Hayden in the second half, with the Pirates loading the box to slow down the run. Beerbower ended the night with 111 yards rushing and one score.
Divante Herrig-Brittain – Piper, WR, Class of ’22
Herrig-Brittain helped create a spark for the Pirates during the second half. The speedy wide out hauled in some impressive catches; one being a 35-yard touchdown reception and the other was a tough nine-yard touchdown reception in the back of the end zone. He and Ladish are looking to be a nice duo for the Pirates the rest of this season.
[player_tooltip player_id="146143" first="Adrion" last="Seals"] – Eudora, WR, Class of ’24
The Cardinals don’t air it out often, but Seals managed to make some huge catches when Hayden looked his way. Seals led the team in receiving, bringing in three catches for over 80 yards, one being a 35-yard touchdown reception before the half. He’s a sophomore with a ton of potential and will definitely be moving up in the next Class of ’24 rankings update.
