Kevin Hornbeak Jr – Whitmer – QB – 6’1″ 235 lbs
Hornbeak is one of the most interesting prospects in the area. He plays QB but he’s built like a DE. He’s getting better each week and Friday he was able to have arguably his best game of the year. He led Whitmer to an easy blowout win and he had that offense up and down the field in a flash. He was able to make just about every throw they asked of him and he’s athletic enough to scramble and extend the play. He had 3 TDs on the night and Whitmer will roll onto the next week.
Josh Watson – Central Catholic – RB – 5’6″ 175 lbs
Central Catholic blew out Lima Senior and Watson was a big reason they rolled the way they did. He was breaking tackles on just about every carry and finding the edge. He’s got quick feet and decent vision inside the hole. If he gets to the outside he’s gone and that happened multiple times on Friday. He broke a 32-yard TD run where he weaved through 3 defenders, somehow went untouched, and then found the endzone.
Ryan Montgomery – Findlay – QB
The Freshman QB had the biggest game of his life when Findlay needed it. Findlay had been struggling in the weeks prior and then they were facing undefeated Fremont Ross. Fremont Ross came out firing and the crowd was silent as they were down 7-0 early. Montgomery decided that he had enough and he got to work. He stayed calm the entire game and was dropping dimes the entire night. He stayed strong and confident in the pocket all night. He delivered a handful of TD throws. He threw an absolute frozen rope to the back of the endzone for his first TD to cool the nerves. He led the Trojans to a 34-14 victory.
Donovan Coughlin – Clay – RB/TE/MLB – 6’2″ 205 lbs
Clay has recently transitioned Donovan to an RB-like role and he’s done nothing but thrive since being put in the backfield. He’s a fantastic athlete and has a large enough frame to handle a massive workload. He’s got decent vision and trusts his instincts on the field. He broke a long TD run where he went untouched and outraced everyone. He’s getting better each week and Clay is going to start relying on him more in the coming weeks.
Denim Truss – St. Francis de Sales (Toledo) – QB – 6’1″ 190 lbs
Truss has been fantastic all season and Friday might have been one of his best performances we’ve seen all year. He’s learning how to read defenses and look off defenders. On Friday, he moved the field side safety with his eyes and flipped his head back, and delivered a strike for a TD. He’s a fantastic athlete and can run so he keeps the defense honest with his legs. After back-to-back losing weeks it was nice to have them win again. They play Findlay this week so we’ll see if they can keep the momentum rolling because Findlay is one of the toughest teams to face, especially on the road.
