Reggie Sanders (2022) I 5’7″ I #2 I RB/WR
Sanders is as quick as a hiccup! If he’s one on one with a defender in a hole or open field, put your money on him. He might not get touched at all. If he gets past the second level, he will outrun any defender with an angle on him. The senior is not a big fella, but he sure is tough, churning his legs for every yard. Sanders was such a threat, there were a couple of plays where the linebackers immediately darted to #2 on a play fake, leaving the middle of the field open for a receiver. That’s the football definition of respect. Anywhere Sanders went, all eyes followed. I’m not afraid to say I followed him around the field, waiting for the next big play to come from him! The kid has skills. Sanders finished the game 21 carries, for 108 and a touchdown. He averaged about 5 yards and his longest run went for 46 yards.
Luke Martin (2022) I 6’2″ I #12 I QB
Martin did not have a great game passing, finishing 6/13 for 104 yards and a singular touchdown, but with a back like Sanders, an offensive line with a player stand out (see below), and play calls focusing on the running game (Martin ran the ball 21 times), he was not asked to pass the ball to get a victory. “Why is he a stand out player then Tee?” Great question reader, Martin is a stand out player because this kid has an ARM! He was not always able to set his feet, and credit to Clear Falls, he had some pretty difficult windows to throw through. When his feet are set, he can make all the throws. Martin’s lone touchdown pass was a 43 yard bomb up the left Clear Falls sideline to end the half, which was a beauty to watch. The senior tied the team with the most carries (21) and scored 2 rushing touchdowns (78 rushing yards). Martin did not throw the football a lot, but some of the passes he made were really majestic to watch.
De’Rion Crooms (2023) I 5’7″ I #13 I WR
Remember that last second touchdown pass Martin threw to end the first half? Yeah, it went to Crooms. Not only did Crooms zoom down field, he made the catch on TWO defenders! That kid can run. His speed was easily his best asset. Crooms only had 2 catches on the night, but he is a nature at the position and can make big plays when given the chance. The team in general did not throw the ball much, so Crooms did not get the opportunity to really shine, but he was a natural hands catcher and was a willing blocker. No a big player but does not play like it, Crooms can makes plays when his number is called.
Josiah Mason (2022) I #64 I OL
Mason first got my attention when it looked like a fight was brewing between him and a Clear Falls defender. I watched him on the very next play to see if the defender was overreacting or if 64 was just one of those players who cheap shot just to knock a player down. Well I’m here to tell you all, Mason is the real deal! I cannot make this up, on THREE STRAIGHT PLAYS, he pancaked 3 different players! He wants to bury anyone he blocks into the dirt, or turf in this case. He was more of a mauler than a finesse pass blocker, with feet that could be more active. I enjoyed when he pulled around, looking for someone to hit and drop! Though his feet aren’t great in pass protection, he moved well in space in the run game and made textbook blocks. Mason played until the whistle blew and was a nasty blocker. He was powerful. I’d be intrigued if he ever moved to center and be the point man of the offensive line. Mason was a joy to watch throughout the game!
These players were instrumental in handing Clear Falls its first loss of the season!
