With that being said, let’s take at the final scores from Week 5 in the Garden State.
No. 4 St Augustine (3-1) vs No. 7 Millville (3-0)
Final Score: St. Augustine 31 Millville 17
St. Augustine made a statement over high powered Millville. Senior RB, Kanye Udoh Kanye Udoh 6'0" | 190 lbs | RB St. Augustine | 2022 State NJ (St.Augustine) led the his team to victory. He ran for 157 yards on 27 carries and 2 touchdowns. This was a crucial win for St. Augustine to be a top candidate for a state championship.
Winslow vs Camden
Final Score: Winslow 22 Camden 21
This game was exciting from start to finish. It wasn’t the best performance from both teams but excitement and passion was an understatement. Senior Quarterback Homas Duren (Winslow) performed well under pressure. He started the game slow but managed to throw 3 touchdowns passes. He threw the game winning conversion to seal the victory over Camden. Going for the two-point conversion was a gutsy call by their head coach. But hey, taking risks are part of the game.
Salem vs Paulsboro
Final Score: Salem 17 Paulsboro 25
The Red Raiders ended Salem’s undefeated record. Senior Runningback Ameer Bateman (Paulsboro) was the top performer this game. He rushed for 231 yards on 21 carries and two touchdowns. Bateman was a handful for Salem. Expect Paulsboro to keep things rolling with their rushing attack.
Cedar Creek vs Woodrow Wilson
Final Score: Cedar Creek 21 Woodrow Wilson 8
The Cedar Creek Pirates won their 5th game in a row. The defense played well, registering 5 sacks and 3 turnovers. Cedar Creek made things difficult for Woodrow Wilson’s high powered offense and capitalized on every turnover they forced. Meanwhile, Cedar Creek surrendered their first points of the year.
Cherokee vs Washington Township
Final Score: Cherokee 14 Washington Township 21
This game down to the wire which was forced to overtime. Washington Township jumped out to 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Cherokee had no answer until late in the 3rd quarter. Both teams played well on defense limiting their best players to few yards. Furthermore, Washington Township made fewer mistakes to come out with the victory. This game was electric but Cherokee is starting to worry. Expect them to pick things up as the season progresses and look for Washington Township to build off momentum.
