Prep Redzone was on sight for a crucial conference game between the Utica Eisenhower Eagles and the Grosse Pointe South Blue Devils in Grosse Pointe Farms. The matchup provided a look at two teams from the Red division of the Macomb Area Conference. The game proved to be a defensive battle, with Grosse Pointe South defeating Eisenhower 9-3. Both defenses played their hearts out, but the Blue Devils proved to be stronger in the end.

Multiple student athletes stand out when looking at these teams and the recruiting picture. Johnson and Klunder, both Michigan commits, have shown dominance this season and that continued on Friday. Both are physically gifted and have traits that would have any college recruiter taking a second look.

Grosse Pointe South (4-2) will move on to take on Macomb Dakota in Macomb in what is a tough environment to play in. Utica Eisenhower (1-4) will take on Romeo next Friday at home. After attending the game, these are the scouting notes I took as I processed what I saw.

Johnson has eye popping range that pairs nicely with his straight line speed. His closing quickness and ability to break on the ball pop out on film and in person. Johnson has tremendous offensive ability as well, playing receiver on offense and fielding punts for the special teams group. He can utilize space and his cuts are quick with explosion. The Blue Devils star defensive back is set to make a name for himself in Ann Arbor next season, after committing to the University of Michigan this past winter. Before the Michigan commit, Johnson had 28 division one offers and a five star rating from 247Sports.

[player_tooltip player_id="30225" first="Joey" last="Klunder"]

Another University of Michigan commit for the class of 2022, Klunder has dominant physicality at the point of attack. He has finish ability to go along with a knack to find the ball carrier with solid vision. He uses his hands well in pass rush and can find leverage on offensive lineman and dictate where they go. Klunder shows some deliberate stack and shed ability, combined with his play recognition ability, provides for some lossed yardage plays in the backfield. Before his commit to Michigan, Klunder landed seven division one offers including schools like Penn, Columbia, and Lehigh, showing his dedication in the classroom as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="206516" first="Preston" last="Crum"]

One to watch for the future, Crum is a crucial aspect of the Utica Eisenhower offense. He shows poise in the pocket and some impressive footwork to elude defenders and step up into the pocket. Eisenhower struggled to get anything going offensively, as shown by the final score, but Crum still made some plays outside of the pocket that were impressive. He is still young, only a sophomore, so he will need to continue to develop his game in order to gain traction in the recruiting ranks.
