Another week is in the books across the country, and it definitely did not disappoint with some top tier matchups, breakout players and new names emerging on both sides of the ball. This is part I of this II part series this week that will feature both offensive and defensive top performances from across the region.

QB Jacob Porteous, Casa Grande HS
One of the most stellar performances across the region in years, the 2022 signal caller picked apart the Maria Carrillo defense for 626 yards and 7 touchdowns on his way to leading his team to a lopsided win. He has a very strong arm and can make all the throws needed, while having a very high football IQ and sneaky good athleticism inside the pocket and while throwing on the run.
WR/DB Sailasa Vardwale, Rancho Cotate HS
No matter the competition, Vardwale continues to prove that is is a FBS caliber prospect and one of the most dynamic and explosive players across all of Northern California, regardless of class. Against a good Acalanes defense, he had 245 yards on 15 receptions and 2 touchdowns and has yet to face a secondary that can even begin to contain him. He showed he can beat double and triple coverage over the top and split safeties while showing his elite ball skills and tracking ability and flashing strong hands/good fluidity in space. Holding one offer from Nevada, it will not be long until other FBS schools pull the trigger on offering him.
RB Curron Borders, Antelope HS
One of the top 2023 backs in Northern California, Borders had a great week 2 performance against a tough Placer defense. Rushing for 323 yards on 19 carries and adding 3 touchdowns, Borders is a low to the ground vertical runner with good elusiveness in the short area while always looking to deliver the blow and get the tough yards.
QB [player_tooltip player_id="186980" first="Jack" last="Quigley"], San Ramon Valley HS
Quigley is one of the top Norcal quarterbacks and remains uncommitted. He stretched the field with nice deep balls and showed excellent escapability and efficiency while leading SRV to a big time win over a very good O’Dowd team. He is a big time arm talent that has been very under-recruited and will be a steal for someone at the next level.
