Andrew McDonald – Chardon – TE/DE – 6’3″ 230 lbs
McDonald plays both ways and is usually an offensive weapon when called on but this week he was a problem on defense. He was blowing up the run game all night and was arguably the reason that the opposing offense never got into a rhythm. He was eating up the A gap just about every play and when they tried bouncing it outside there was McDonald. He finished with 2 sacks, a handful of TFL, and 1 big hit on the RB.
Kaden Payne – Shaw – FS – 5’11” 187 lbs
Payne was just seemingly always in the right place and the right time on Friday. He had a few balls bounce his way or be tipped his way and when the ball came he delivered. His biggest impact was on the first drive of the game where a ball got knocked loose and Payne jumped on it to recover stopping the opening drive. He’s been coached very well throughout the years and tries to do everything by the textbook.
Aaron Mccarter – Bedford – DE/OLB – 6’1″ 175 lbs
Mccarter will bounce around on the defense depending on what they need him to do. He has the ability to get after the quarterback and the raw athleticism to drop back into coverage. He is able to defend most RBs and TEs in man coverage without getting burned and can drop back and play zone all day. Friday he was able to get home on a huge play where he sacked the QB way behind the LOS. It killed their momentum and forced them to punt again.
Jacob Biggom – Cleveland Heights – MLB/DE – 6’0″ 230 lbs
Biggom has a very similar role to his team that Mccarter has for his. They will drop him into coverage and have him rush the passer. He was able to get home a few times on Friday and ended the night with 1.5 sacks. Late in the game when the offense was driving Biggom got his massive hands on the ball while tackling a defender and forced the fumble. That fumble iced the game and let Cleveland Heights win the game.
Ethan Boyd – Strongsville – OLB – 5’11” 185 lbs
Boyd is one of the cornerstones for the Strongsville defense and on a night where not much went right defensively, Boyd had a steady-handed performance. He was making tackles left and right and whenever he got after the quarterback it ended in negative yards. They should have rushed him more often. He tipped 2 passes as well. He was a menace defensively causing issues in just about every phase.
