While it’s easy to get distracted by the great players in the classes 2022 and 2023, it’s valuable to start noticing these sophomores as they are the next big time players in Michigan.
The matchups this past week and weekend were fun to watch and some even came down to the wire. Brother Rice wide-out Xavier Bowman Xavier Bowman 6'1" | 190 lbs | WR Southfield A&T | 2024 State MI came up with a big touchdown catch against Dakota with five minutes remaining in the game, one of many plays made by sophomores this week in their opening games of the regular season. The more we see big time plays like Bowman’s, the more traction these players will get in the recruiting ranks.

Here are three sophomores who had impressive games in week one.
CJ Carr CJ Carr 6'2" | 175 lbs | QB Saline | 2024 State MICarr put on a show for Saline in week 1 as he and his team beat Hudsonville 34-30 in a thriller to start the season. Carr finished with three touchdown passes in the big win. He has a rocket arm with a lot of touch, and it’s apparent he’s going to be a top player in the state for the next three seasons. The sophomore has received an off from the University of Michigan, which is not surprising as Carr is a University of Michigan legacy, being the grandson of former Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr. He also has interest from schools like Wisconsin, Notre Dame, and Michigan State. Sharing the quarterback position with Larry Robinson, Saline has a great system in place to have both future division one quarterbacks succeed. Look for Carr to continue to rise up national rankings as he gets more college attention.

One of the other top names in the quarterback conversation for the class of 2024, Marshall is an athletic quarterback who can expose a defense in a variety of ways. He has pin-point accuracy on deep throws along with a tight spiral. His ability to make things happen out of nothing is the most intriguing part of his game. Cass Tech brought pressure and it seemed like Marshall was able to assess the field and make plays while avoiding getting sacked. Marshall plays an experienced game at a young age, utilizing his decision making and not forcing things. Currently with nine offers as a sophomore, he is already getting the attention of some top programs in the country. A big name to follow in this class.

Bowman came up with a huge touchdown catch late in what was a thriller between Brother Rice and Dakota. His play style is a lot of fun for evaluators to watch because of his explosiveness. He can find a crease in the heart of the defense and explode through, causing havoc for defenses to try and tackle him. A sophomore contributing to big time plays is a great sign for the future, and I’m sure Brother Rice has big plans for the young wideout. Bowman currently has two offers from Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan, with more on the way.
I’m trying to tell you, @BroRiceWarriors Sophomore Xavier Bowman is a problem. They went 1v1 on the outside, safety late over the top, TD.
