Josh Watson – Catholic Central – RB – 5’6″ 175 lbs
Watson was able to put on a running clinic on Friday. His feet were together, balanced, and he was very light on them. Catholic Central fed him the rock and he delivered. He bounced back up after every carry and was ready for the next one. Watson made one of the greatest runs you’ll ever see on Friday. He was able to cut across the field, realize he didn’t like that direction, turn around, and then come back the other way while making the entire defense miss on his way to a touchdown. It was a thing of absolute beauty.
Max Roth – Findlay – QB – 6’1″ 170 lbs
A little nervous early, Roth found his groove and looked comfortable later in the game. He was dialed in deep to his cousin Justin who we will talk about here in a second. With Max, he was able to roll out comfortably, sit in the pocket, and make his reads. He did just that most of the night and led Findlay to a victory. He’s a young QB who had his groove on Friday. He was dropping balls into the bucket consistently. He looked good and as the season goes along you can expect him to continue developing.
Justin Roth – Findlay – WR – 6’0″ 165 lbs
Justin was Max’s number one target on Friday but it was what Justin was able to do with the ball in the air that stood out. Justin had a pair of touchdown receptions that he earned himself. Don’t get me wrong, they were great throws by Max, but Justin looked incredible. Justin’s first touchdown he went up right over the top of 2 defenders and plucked the ball out of the air for a touchdown. His second touchdown was a beautiful toe drag in the corner of the endzone. Justin was unguardable on Friday and Max knew where to put the ball where only he could get it. That’s a connection I’m very excited to see more of.
Denim Truss – St. Francis – QB – 6’3″ 220 lbs
Truss looked great on Friday. He was setting his feet, focusing on his footwork, and delivering strikes. He has great arm strength and can let it rip when he wants to. He’s also a great athlete and his rushing ability that kept the defense honest. Truss was able to deliver a few touchdown passes including a dime to Trey Talboo in the corner of the endzone to get the night started. If he keeps stringing those types of games together, he’s going to garner some serious interest. He has a huge arm and is 6’3″ while being a great athlete. Someone is going to take a shot on him at the next level.
Tj Takats – Perrysburg – QB – 6’4″ 175 lbs
Takats definitely had an up and down day on Friday, but he absolutely made plays to turn some heads. Early in the game, a bad snap went right through his legs, he ran back and got it, picked it up, found his receiver, and delivered a strike 30-yards while getting hit for a touchdown. It was an unbelievable play and Takats showed that he can throw it on a frozen rope while standing still. Takats is obviously very tall, if he can keep developing he could be a fantastic pocket passer at the next level.
