The Five: Mr. Football Candidates – Class 2A
In this article:
Continuing along in our look at the top contenders for Mr. Football, we look at the prime candidates in Class 2A for the top individual award.
There may be a clear cut favorite for this award in this classification but you have some solid contenders that could give the SEC quarterback commit a run for his money!
1. (QB)
Ty Simpson
Ty
Simpson
6'2" | 190 lbs | QB
Westview | 2022
State
TN
(6'2 190) - Westview
- There is no question that Simpson is the lead contender for Mr. Football in Class 2A this year. The only question is who will battle him for the top spot or let alone, second place. Simpson has looked sharp this offseason as well as last week in the team's opening week victory. Even though the Chargers signal caller has been stellar so far in his high school career, this could be the best he has looked yet. Could Simpson slip up this season or get injured, yes but all indications points towards the Alabama commit putting up huge numbers this season and eventually walking away with 2A Mr. Football.
2. (WR/DB)
Cameron Miller
Cameron
Miller
6'1" | 190 lbs | ATH/TE
M.A.H.S. | 2022
State
TN
(6'1 190) - M.A.H.S.
- This last go around for Miller with his Tigers squad should be the best season yet and the current Tennessee commit looks in great shape and poised for a big senior year. Miller is the go to guy on the Lions offense and the key playmaker over on defense but he will have help this season, so he won't have to take the full workload. That work relief will allow Miller to shine even more, being that big play threat that comes up with clutch plays and the ability to put up points in a hurry. His upside may sit higher on defense where he can use his size to swallow up receivers but for the Lions, he is two-way Mr. Football talent that will have to be accounted for each and every game.
3. (QB/S)
Luke Myers
Luke
Myers
6'0" | 190 lbs | QB
South Greene | 2022
TN
(6'0 192) - South Greene
- Myers has experience in this area as he was a contender for Mr. Football as a junior and he is looking to build off last season's strong performance and do even better this year. Myers is Mr. Do-Everything for his Rebels team and senior leader that handles the ball and runs the show on both offense and defense. There is nothing that doesn't happen on the field too often without Myers a part of it and somewhere close by. He is a dynamic runner and instinctive football player that has a knack for the big play. If Myers is able to put up big numbers again, win his region and take his Rebels to the playoffs, Mr. Football could very well be in play this season.
4. (QB)
Logan Carroll
Logan
Carroll
5'10" | 190 lbs | QB
Meigs County | 2022
TN
(5'10 190) - Meigs Co.
- The commander and chief of one of the best team's in Class 2A is Carroll and he is ready to go out with a bang for his senior year. That means going after Mr. Football and more importantly, a state championship. Carroll is undersized but he is a bulldog, a warrior that competes till the final whistle and gives his team everything he has, game in and game out. Carroll is a dual threat guy that is more prone to beat you with his legs, more so than his arm. He can make that intermediate throw but he devours defenses with his running. The Tigers have a strong team for 2021 and with Carroll at the helm, big honors could be had by the end of the year.
5. (QB/DB)
Keenan Burnley
Keenan
Burnley
6'0" | 170 lbs | DB
Trousdale County | 2022
State
TN
(6'0 180) - Trousdale Co.
- Here is your top five sleeper that many may not know about now but should by the end of the 2021 season. Burnley is viewed and recruited for the college level at defensive back but the two-way talent plays quarterback for his Yellow Jackets team, which means the ball will be in the hands often of the best athlete on the Trousdale County squad. He is quick, smart and instinctive. Burnley fits the role perfectly for what Trousdale wants in their quarterback and he has the right mental makeup to handle the role and take his Yellow Jackets team deep into postseason play.
