Even though Byron Center took the W 42-28, Seaholm posted 401 all-purpose yards, while BS posted 404. Many new faces rose to the occasion on the gridiron, let’s see who performed the best.
Seaholm
’24 Colton Kinnie, QB – Colton came in and played well in the 2nd half, throwing for over 100 yards, with a rushing TD. Kinnie’s zip on the ball really impressed me, especially on his 62-yard TD to WR Kyle Robbins. Kinnie also made great veer reads that put his team in a good position to score. Kinnie is undoubtedly Seaholm’s offensive MVP for week 1.
’22 Jack Trinch, RB – I was incredibly impressed with Trinch in all aspects of the game. Offensively, Trinch did his job and made the most of his carries scoring a TD on the opening drive. Trinch also returned kicks, punts, and was a defensive standout playing DB. Despite a muffed punt, I was hearing Trinch’s name called all night during all 3 phases. Trinch was Seaholm’s best all-around player this week.
Byron Center
’23 Hutner Schichtel, QB – This kid tore it up last night rushing for well over 100 yards, 4 rushing TD’s, with an incredible passing TD to Brady Breit. Schichtel truly stole the show as he became an unstoppable offensive force and only looked better as the game went on. Schichtel is my overall Offensive MVP for this matchup.
’23 Brady Breit, WR – With 6 catches and the play of the game, there’s no way I could have kept Breit off this list. Breit has been turning heads during the offseason and he really shined in the first game of the season. Check out the play of the game Schichtel –> Breit

Offensive line – The Bulldogs O line did a good job against a very good Maples front 7. During those huge Byron Center runs, there was almost always a key block made up front that of course didn’t get the credit it deserved. Hats off to the Bulldogs in the trenches!
Next week the Maples stay at home to face Clarkston, while Byron Center will face Thornapple Kellog (0-1)
