Lincoln Christian got off to a slow start but when the floodgates opened, they didn’t close until the final buzzer. The Bulldogs beat Beggs on Friday night 52-14. For a complete game recap, you can check that out RIGHT HERE. But for this post, we’re taking a look at five prospects that not only stood out on Friday, but showed why they could end up at the next level, whatever that level is.
[player_tooltip player_id="157518" first="Cam" last="Dooley"] - 2023 Wide Receiver
One player for Lincoln Christian that we were very excited to see was newcomer [player_tooltip player_id="157518" first="Cam" last="Dooley"]. The Lincoln transfer from Coweta had an outstanding offseason playing 7v7 football for Sooner 7. Now, as always, 7v7 doesn’t always translate to Friday’s, but Dooley was one of the more consistent wide receivers that we saw this spring. And he showed his abilities in Friday’s win over Beggs. Dooley caught three passes for 49 yards and a touchdown. Combining him with a few other Lincoln wide receivers will give quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="52787" first="Max" last="Brown"] some legitimate weapons to have in this offense. A big question for us in regards to Lincoln’s offense would be how they would replace superstar wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="38543" first="Kolbe" last="Katsis"] and it was pretty apparent from the start. While they don’t have a guy like Katsis on the roster yet, they have a junior and a sophomore wideout that could end up being pretty special.
[player_tooltip player_id="193143" first="Dylan" last="Baldridge"] - 2024 Wide Receiver
We mentioned a sophomore wideout to go along with Dooley and that would be [player_tooltip player_id="193143" first="Dylan" last="Baldridge"]. He was a playmaker for Lincoln in their win over Beggs. Like Dooley, Baldridge caught three passes but he went for 91 yards and a pair of touchdowns. And those touchdowns were incredibly impressive to see from the sophomore. The first touchdown was a 50-yarder where he stiff armed a defender to the ground around the 10-yard line and was able to walk into the end zone. Then in the second half, Baldridge caught a 26 yard-touchdown where he had to extend and dive with a defender draped all over him and he still came up with the touchdown reception. Baldridge already looks the part, standing over 6’0 and clearly has big play potential. What’s truly scary is how talented he could become in this Lincoln offense over the course of this season. But he’s off to a great start this year.
[player_tooltip player_id="155258" first="Easton" last="Rogers"] - 2023 Running Back
Our next offensive standout is junior running back [player_tooltip player_id="155258" first="Easton" last="Rogers"]. While he wasn’t the leading rusher in this ball game, you could tell that he has a very important role within this offense. Workhorse. Rogers carried the ball 14 times for 57 yards and only had two carries that went for more than six yards. He’s certainly going to be their short-yard back specialist and a player that is utilized to carry the ball, not turn it over and give Lincoln’s QB [player_tooltip player_id="52787" first="Max" last="Brown"] a bit of a rest within the offense. Brown was Lincoln’s leading rusher and that could end up staying the same throughout the year. But Rogers is definitely needed to give Brown a break and be able to shoulder the load of this offense when they aren’t airing it out. He protected the football and did a good job in those short-yardage situations on Friday night. Plus, Beggs’ front seven has some really special and talented players. Rogers is going to have more success throughout the rest of the season.
[player_tooltip player_id="193142" first="Isaac" last="Autaubo"] - 2023 Defensive Lineman
Lincoln Christian had their work cut out for them with the Beggs offense, containing what could be the best 1-2 punch at the running back position with [player_tooltip player_id="38669" first="CJ" last="Brown"] and [player_tooltip player_id="110739" first="Red" last="Martel"]. And while we don’t have official stats and numbers, we do know that junior defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id="193142" first="Isaac" last="Autaubo"] had his name called a lot as he went up against a pretty strong Beggs offensive line and gave their running game plenty of problems. Beggs fell out of this game because of short possessions, penalties and turnovers. Autaubo caused at least two of those things as he and the Lincoln defense did a great job containing the running game and they also forced several turnovers throughout the evening. Just a junior, we’re very interested in watching his development as a defensive lineman. He’s a little undersized for the position but in a game where fatigue became an issue, he had a motor that did not slow down.
[player_tooltip player_id="52787" first="Max" last="Brown"] - 2022 Quarterback
The only senior on the list is our final prospect as it is Lincoln Christian’s QB1 in [player_tooltip player_id="52787" first="Max" last="Brown"]. This time last year, Brown made his first appearance as Lincoln’s QB. Head coach Jerry Ricke told us the story of how they moved their starting QB to RB so he could be in the huddle to help Brown with the play calls. Fast forward to today and he’s in there all by himself and torching the Beggs defense. He threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more touchdowns and accounted for well over 300 yards of total offense. Brown is a true dual-threat quarterback and it was obvious throughout the season last year that as Brown got more comfortable in the Lincoln offense, he would be a special talent. With a full offseason under his belt, Brown has taken his game to the next level. He’s going to have Lincoln Christian right back in the 3A title conversation this fall. Central Michigan got a good commit in the form of Brown.
