Here’s a look at the players to watch.
Dominic Coleman, 2022, 6’1, 165, QB/DB, Granada: Coleman is the leading passer in 6-man football over the last two seasons. As a sophomore in 2019, he was third in the classification with 1,618 yards and 18 touchdowns. Then in 2020, he led the classification with 1,469 yards and 30 touchdowns. He will also pick up a number of big runs per game, with 694 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground to go with his passing accolades. He is the key to the offense for Granada and nearly led the team to the state championship game. In addition to his offensive prowess, he made some big plays on the defensive side of the ball with 50 tackles, three interceptions and three fumble recoveries. Coleman is one of the top stars coming back in 6-man football this year, and he could be one of the few that could become a small-school prospect for the next level.
Alex Cruz, 2023, 5’9, 150, RB/LB, Stratton/Liberty: Cruz was a touchdown machine for Stratton/Liberty, scoring two or more touchdowns in four of six games in 2020. He has the ability to hit big runs when he carries the ball, averaging 8.9 yards per carry. He excelled in the open field on defense, too, with 24 solo tackles and 32 total stops. Nearly the entire team returns for Stratton/Liberty, which will put them in position to get to the state championship game. Cruz is expected to be a team leader on both sides of the ball again.
John Hainer, 2023, 6’3, 255, RB/DL, Granada: For 6-man football, Hainer has the size to be a huge difference maker. He was part of the two-way punch with Coleman on offense, leading the team with 801 rushing yards and 479 receiving yards for the team. His size will also allow him to be a good blocker when needed. His size and athleticism makes him a good defensive player too. He recorded 50 tackles and forced two fumbles with his physical play.
Evan Worley, 2022, 5’11, 170, RB/DB, Cheyenne Wells: Worley was a big receiving threat in his sophomore season in 2019, with 14 receptions for 248 yards and six touchdowns. Last year as a junior, his run game production shot up big time. He led the team with 774 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns, showing the ability to break a big run in the open field. Worley’s speed also makes him a factor returning kicks in the special teams, an area he hopes to make an even bigger splash in 2021. The speed for Worley allows him to get to the ball carrier on defense, where he recorded 38 solo tackles and 54 total stops in six games.
