Program Preview: St. Vincent de Paul High School
In this article:
Below, we will dive into the top players for the Mustangs and preview their Fall 2021 season. The smaller North Bay school has completely transformed over the last three years since Head Coach Trent Herzog took over, one of the most respected head coaches in the entire region. Coming off a solid 2021 Spring season while playing against schools five times their enrollment size, they proved that they cannot only hang with the bigger public schools, but they can beat them. Going into the first season as part of the NBL-Redwood League in Sonoma County, St. Vincent’s will play a strong pre-season schedule against Norcal area powers such as two time state champion St. Bernards Academy from Eureka and a Saint Helena program that goes deep into the playoffs every season and has key returners coming back. Saint Vincent’s is a young team overall, but has some big time playmakers on the perimeter and in the backfield along with a loaded defense that is all returning from last season.
ATH Dante Antonini, 2022
The top player in the area and a physical, violent and athletic prospect that plays all over the field, the 3-star prospect is in for a huge season from his receiver and linebacker/corner/safety positions. Antonini is a very well put together kid with sneaky speed while very explosive near the ball and has outstanding natural ball skills and big play abilities. On defense, he reads plays quickly and has the rare ability to be a new age linebacker at the next level due to his natural hip fluidity, ball skills and tackling abilities. He offers huge upside at the next level and should see FCS+ offers come his way soon enough.
RB/LB Kai Hall Kai Hall 5'8" | 175 lbs | RB Saint Vincent de Paul | 2023 State CA , 2023
Hall was the 2019 NCS Freshman of the Year for the North Coast Section and is coming off a impressive 10 touchdown performance in the Spring season. He is one of the top backs in the 2023 class in all of Northern California and will continue to be an explosive and versatile piece of the Mustangs offense and defense this Fall. He shows elite vision in traffic and body control upon contact, while easily able to make the first defender miss in space. He will be a name to remember once again in the coming months.
TE/LB Nathan Rooks, 2023
Another one of the Mustangs impressive rising Juniors, Rooks is a physical presence on defense and can play both inside linebacker and defensive end while showing he can be a effective pass rusher when need. He is a violent player with good tackling abilities and a strong use of hands when coming off the edge with a variety of pass rush moves as his disposal. He will line up all over the field this season, and remains one of the most versatile and dominating players across the region.
OL/DL Cam Vaughn, 2023
Vaughn is the top offensive lineman returning and a very well put together two-way player. Moving very well for his size, he is an athletic kid with heavy hands that does a good job at controlling defenders with hand placement and consistent leg drive/base through out his blocks. Balanced against the pass as well, he is a plug at nose tackle and can two-gap when needed while creating consistent knock-back at the LOS.
ATH Jaret Bosarge, 2023
Bosarge is one of the smartest players on the field at all times and can play multiple positions on both sides of the ball. Although a bit undersized, he more then makes up for it with his natural instincts, open field tackling ability and high football IQ pre-snap and through out the play. Extremely tough and technically sound when getting off blocks and triggering in traffic, he has a great balance of cover/tackle abilities from both the second and third level.
DE/TE Killian Collins, 2022
Collins had a solid Junior season last Spring as both a pass rusher and tight end. He is a twitchy player with a quick use of hands upon contact and a talented edge rusher that will look to put everything together for his Senior season and could start both ways for the Mustangs. He has good size and is technically sound while offering a balanced attack against the passer and in the run game.
DE/OL Bainey Reier, 2024
Part of a loaded Sophomore class, Reier started almost every game last season at defensive end as a Freshman and did not disappoint. He is an extremely high motor player with good closing speed and pursuit backside while showing he can read and play his keys effectively. He is also strong at the POA and shows a nice bullrush and snatch when rushing the passer and although only a sophomore, he is poised for a big season and will cause havoc on opposing quarterbacks.
