Coaching Staff
The Hornets are led by Head Coach Marc Lemerand. Last year, Coach Lemerand did a great job navigating everything thrown his way to the best of his ability. He kept the Hornets floating last year and expects a bounce-back year this year. They were over .500 last year, but it wasn’t their typical season. They expect to make a deep run into the playoffs every year and 2021 is going to be no different.
2020 Recap
In 2020 the pandemic through a wrench into their plans, and the Hornets weren’t able to completely able to bounce back but still had a decent year. They dealt with injuries and an outbreak but never fell flat. They finished the year going 5-3 and averaged 25 PPG and gave up 19 PPG. They struggled down the stretch losing their last 2 games, including their playoff matchup against Olivet.
Key Players In 2021
The Hornets have a plethora of ball carries they use because of the old-school T-style offense they run. One of those ball carriers is actually their starting quarterback Jordan Barnes Barnes is the only player who obviously touches the ball on every snap but you never know which way it’s going. He does a great job navigating the offense and keeping the defense honest with his cuts. Barnes is a slender athlete and only stands at 5’6″ 140 lbs. However, he fits that offense perfectly and Coach Lemerand will be relying on Barnes to distribute the offense in 2021.
Hillsdale is going to be asking a lot out of Senior Brock Ladd in 2021 as well. Ladd is going to be both ways for the Hornets. He is starting at Guard and then at MLB. The 5’9″ 190 lbs Senior is the leader of the defense. He will bark out the call and run downhill and make the play. He’s as reliable as they come.
2021 Schedule
Hillsdale starts their season Friday on the road facing Jonesville. Jonesville is a fantastic team in their own right. That game kicks off at 7 PM. Next week, they have a neutral game site against Berrien Springs before they return home for 1 week. They then turn back around and hit the road for a few weeks, return home for 2 weeks, and then finish the season with a 2 game road trip. The Hornets wrap up the regular season on October 22nd at 7 PM at Clinton.
