Caden Oliver (2023) | 5-11 | DB/QB | Parma Western
Oliver was shut down in coverage at the cornerback position. Opposing receivers could not get any separation from him. Not only did Oliver do a great job in coverage, but he also recovered a fumble on a punt with just 8 minutes left in the game. With just over two minutes left in the game, Oliver had a 30 plus yard run on an end-around to set the Panthers up in the red zone.
Landon Heavy (2024) | 6-3 | FB/LB | Parma Western
Landon Heavy was great on both the offensive and defensive sides of the football. Heavy had the go-ahead touchdown early in the 3rd quarter to make the score 13-6 in favor of Western. He also recorded a key sack on 3rd down to stop a promising St. John’s drive. Heavy had some physical, tough running on the final drive to help the Panthers get to the goal line.
Matthew McCastle (2023) | 6-0 | RB/LB | St. Johns
McCastle was a tackling machine all night long for St. Johns. McCastle had a critical tackle on 4th down that got the Panthers off the field. McCastle has the ideal size and speed you look for in a linebacker and those traits were definitely on display Friday night. McCastle is a talented football player who will make many more plays for St. Johns this season.
Nolan Wheeler (2022) | 6-1 | QB/DB | Parma Western
Nolan Wheeler did a great job of making timely plays. Wheeler completed a big throw to Cole Wilcox for a thirty-plus yard gain early in the third quarter. Wheeler is a very athletic quarterback who can throw with great touch. His mobility was crucial late in the game. Wheeler ended up rushing for a QB sneak touchdown to help the Panthers take a 20-12 lead.
Justin Goodman (2022) | 6-0 | WR/DB | St. Johns
The St. Johns Red Wings defensive backs played great coverage all night. Justin Goodman played a major part in the exceptional pass defense. Goodman is a very quick corner who is not afraid to play press man to man. Goodman had a critical pass breakup that stopped the Panthers from taking a two-score lead in the 3rd quarter.
Brady Plate (2023) | 6-2 | OL/DL | Parma Western
Plate was disruptive all night on the defensive line. His name was called numerous times for tackles. Brady Plate was one of several Panther’s defenders who were in the St. John’s backfield most of the game. Brady Plate’s presence on the football field will have to be known by opponents moving forward.
