The Hornets were locked in on the defensive side of the ball. They gave up just a little over 100 yards of total offense and made the evening a nightmare for Southmoore quarterback

. The Southmoore QB was 8-20 for just 35 yards and a pair of interceptions. The Hornets were swarming throughout the secondary and it was nearly impossible to make a big play with all the speed and talent that Booker T has on the field. As we’ve mentioned before, the Hornets don’t have good numbers, but the ones they do have are some of the best in the state. The combination of

- 2023 Quarterback - Booker T Washington
The junior quarterback was lights out in the season opener. As mentioned above, it’s somewhat easy to be lights out when you have the type of talent to distribute the ball to. Boone would finish the game 16-18 for 231 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He was also a threat in the running game that Southmoore had to try to limit. He finished with eight carries for 21 yards and a touchdown run on a nasty option keeper where he faked the pitch to the running back, forcing the linebacker to go in that direction and we walked into the end zone. There’s no doubt that the skill players at Booker T Washington are some of the best in the state, but Boone has taken his game to another level as well.

On His Confidence And His Receivers
"It’s definitely a good feeling to just line up and see all the talent across the board. I have a lot of chemistry with these guys after working at practice and it gives me a lot of confidence going into each week. I get to keep all my guys happy. But those guys are doing all of the work, I don’t take any of the credit. Those guys are phenomenal, I really appreciate them."
WHAT’S NEXT
Booker T Washington: AT Del City - September 3rd
Booker T Washington will be returning to the OKC area for week one as they take on Del City. The Eagles are scrimmaging this week so it will be their season opener. It will also be the first game for Robert Jones as Del City’s head coach. The Hornets were able to beat the Eagles in week one last year with a close 15-13 victory. The previous two years, they had met in the 6A-2 playoffs, with each team winning once. The Hornets won in 2018 while the Eagles won in 2019. The Hornets have a 2-1 advantage in the last three meetings but this game will be like last year, very close throughout, with a lot of talent on both sidelines.
Southmoore: AT Deer Creek - September 3rd
Southmoore will attempt to bounce back in week one as they travel up north to face off with Deer Creek. The Antlers are also kicking off their season this week, as they’ll play host to Edmond North. Deer Creek got the best of the Sabercats 30-24 in last season’s meeting. However, it should have been a blowout. Deer Creek was up 30-3 with about seven minutes left in the game and Southmoore would rally to have a chance in the end. However, the Antlers would get out with the victory and improve to 3-2 against Southmoore since 2016.
