Ian Langan, Northern Highlands, 6’3 180 lbs
A true WR1, this young athlete possesses all the traits a QB dreams of. Physically imposing, makes contested catches with DB’s on deep throws, & is not afraid to go over the middle. His speed is above average but not exceptional. Although most of his receiving highlights came from deep throws or swing / screen passes, the few routes (like Z-Spot) he ran did include decent footwork. If his short / intermediate route running is accentuated this year, there’s no doubt he can play at a high level in college.
Justine Martone, Ramsey, 5’9 170 lbs
For the younger generation that may not remember, Martone is the modern day “Slash” – That is, Kordell Stewart, former Pittsburgh Steelers player who essentially was a swiss knife position wise. Martone has the ability to play both WR and RB efficiently, as well as DB and KR despite his smaller stature. By far the fastest athlete on this list, both his linear and side-to-side speed are off the charts. Like Langan and most of the WR’s on this list, there were not many opportunities to showcase route running. Lack of stats / touches on the ball don’t serve justice to how well this kid plays.
Ricky Rainey, Lyndhurst, 5’11 185 lbs
Utilized more as a hard-hitting LB, Rainey can move for a bigger body. Ball carrier vision is excellent. Not afraid to go over the middle and make tough catches with his hands instead of his body. Could be a breakout WR to watch out for, considering John Lembo will be playing QB for Lyndhurst again this year.
Robbie Tormo, New Milford, 5’11 170 lbs
Runs the cleanest routes out of all the WR on this list. Top speed is above average, but his acceleration is what stands out. The only reason Tormo isn’t higher on this list is due to most of his receptions coming off jet screens. Just like Rainey, Tormo will definitely benefit from good QB play this year.
Justin Armwood, Fort Lee, 6’0 195 lbs
Good size for a WR. Great hands going over the middle. Most times needs more than one tackler to take him down. Staying consistent is key for this WR to be a major contributor for Fort Lee on the offensive side of the ball.
