Below, we will break down some of the top performances and players that were a consistent presence over the weekend in the second part of this series. Part I released yesterday can be found Here.
2022 TE/LB Antonio Bernardini, Casa Grande HS
Bernardini is one of the top defenders in the North Bay from his linebacker position while also a devastating blocker out of the backfield. He moves well in space while having a fast trigger to ball carriers and understanding zone coverage responsibilities underneath. On tape, he shows he is a tough in the box thumper that is a strong tackler and can take on blockers with heavy hands and good pad level while also able to apply pressure from various angles with well timed blitz’s . Currently holding an offer from Lewis and Clark, he should continue to see offers come his way going into his Senior year.
2024 DB/WR Ananias Walker, Rancho Cotate HS
Ananias is a very impressive FBS caliber player with a long frame and terrific overall athleticism. He shows good long speed and COD ability in the short area while a natural two-way player. On the defensive side of the ball, he has fluid hips and a natural back peddler while able to use his length and ball skills to recover against vertical routes when trailing. In press, he does a good job at jamming at the line while able to trigger quickly when breaking to ball carriers showing he is not afraid of contact while being a strong open field tackler. He plays with good physicality and toughness and will be one of the best defensive backs available in the Bay Area within the 2024 class in the coming years.
2022 QB Jacob Porteous, Casa Grande HS
The 2022 signal caller played well all weekend for the Gauchos and took his team to the title game to face a tough Rancho Cotate squad. Both days, he delivered some nice balls downfield while patient in the pocket and taking what was given. More of a pocket passer, he moves well outside of the pocket and can throw on the run into tight windows vertically. Consistently able to put nice touch on the ball and throw his receivers open, he is a high IQ player that scans the field well and stays calm through out his progressions. Although not holding any offers, he should see some D-III+ interest come his way through the Fall.
