Continue ReadingWith the impact of COVID-19 on HS football in Maryland last fall, we didn’t get a full look at the areas talent. Lets take a look at five players from the class of 2023 that I think will play a big role on their teams and earn some well deserved recognition this fall. Since the football season in MD was cancelled, film, 7-on-7, and camps were absolutely huge this spring and summer. I’ve had the chance to watch a few of these guys in action at these events.
Mekhi Workman WR/FS 5’10 160lbs, Franklin High School (Reisterstown ,MD)
The only way to explain this player is Explosive. This 2021 FBU MVP has shown off his route running, quickness, and hands at various camps/events such as the University of Florida, UCF, Temple, Pylon 7on7 (Phila.), Battle 7on7 (MD), and The SHOW by NextGen. Along with his FBU MVP performance he earned an invite to the 2022 All-American Bowl National Combine. As a freshmen on JV he scored an impressive 5 all purpose TD’s in one half against Towson High School. As a Sophomore he played safety and receiver on Varsity for the Franklin Indians in the short spring season.
I predict that Mekhi will touch the ball a lot more for the Indians and have the opportunity to show some of his playmaking abilities. He runs routes with purpose, demonstrating stem technique and a quick stick step at the top of his routes. Although he is not the tallest specimen on the field he will climb the ladder and go get jump balls. Not to mention celebratory backflips after TD’s. He will need to continue to grow, pack on weight, and show some serious top end speed to turn those big power 5 heads that all prospects desire. Freshman SZN: http://www.hudl.com/v/2C6Bei

Mekhi Workman: Temple Prospect Camp Part 2
Dante Lovett

,Cornerback ,6’1 185lbs ,Dematha Catholic High School (Hyattsville, MD)
Dante is your prototypical Cornerback, already at D1 prospect size and still has 2 years of growth before stepping on to a college campus. Here we have another 2021 FBU MVP and 2022 National Combine invitee. Dante has already secured offers from Boston College, Cincinnati, and Rhode Island. Some camps that he has displayed his talent at are UNC, WVU, Virginia Tech, UA All-American camp in Baltimore, and most recently FBU Top Gun in Naples, FL.
At the FBU camp in Baltimore he displayed good feet and strength during press coverage. He consistently played through the hands of the receiver whether in good position or in chase. This will be his first season at MD powerhouse Dematha where he will be challenged in all aspects of the game. Previously Dante attended St. Vincent Pallotti in Laurel, MD. In their very short 2 game 2020 season he recorded an INT for a touchdown against Calvert Hall. With his sound technique and prototypical strength and speed I would keep an eye on this kid up against some great WCAC competition. Covid SZN: http://www.hudl.com/v/2EfvP2
Tre Goodridge ,WR, 5’10 185lbs ,Mount Saint Joseph (Baltimore, MD)
Tre has played Varsity for the Geals since his Freshmen year. Playing alongside some D1 prospects I would say Tre is a diamond in the rough. The Geals did not have a football season at all, so game film is scarce to this point. He had a huge 7on7 season, showing up time and time again at big name tournaments such as Pylon (NJ), Pylon (Phila.), and Battle (MD). He played a big part in his team winning the Pylon championship in NJ. This summer he has displayed his talent at the UA All-American camp in Baltimore, FBU Baltimore, Penn State, and University of Maryland.
Tre is a strong bodied hardhat football player, who plays with grit and high intensity. In man to man coverage he shows stacking technique allowing him to body defenders from the ball. Very aware player who plays well in zone, knowing where to sit and cut off his routes to create smart easy throws for his QB. Plays well under pressure in clutch situations being a trustworthy weapon and vocal in keeping the offense composed. This young veteran should help lead the Geals this up coming season on the offensive side of the ball. The first glimpse at Tre will be against Mekhi (mentioned above) and the Franklin Indians in a scrimmage 7pm @ Franklin High School.

Kyree (KP) Price, DB, 6’2 175lbs, Calvert Hall (Baltimore, MD)
Here we have another D1 sized DB, who played mostly cornerback for the Varsity Calvert Hall Cardinals in 2019. As a 2 sport athlete, baseball, KP missed a lot of this past springs popular 7 on 7 season, going to the playoffs with Calvert Hall baseball. In his short offseason he attended a WVU prospect camp an landed his first offer from the Mountaineers, shortly after Syracuse followed suit and gave him his second.
This athlete passes the eye test by far, shows aggressiveness and makes his presence felt in the defensive back field. He shows the ability to shed blockers and attack ball carries with ease. In person I did get a chance to watch him in 1-on-1 and 7-on-7 drills. He showed patience and discipline in his technique, while recording 3 INT’s. Impressed by his ability to keep up with the short, quick athletes in attendance with him being a taller defensive back. With his long stature and ability shown as a freshmen playing on Varsity I expect KP to burst onto the scene during this 2021 season. 2019 Freshman Highlights (2020 Cancelled) : http://www.hudl.com/v/2CVFdb
Nathan Stewart, WR, 6’5 190lbs, St. Vincent Pallotti (Laruel, MD)
Nathan has the potential to become one of the best if not the #1 WR in MD. The size, speed, catching, and footwork are all there. Outside of his current film, I had the opportunity to watch this kid at Pylon(NJ). For his team ,Most Wanted, out of the DC area he was the “go get it” weapon. He makes 50/50 balls 60/40. From jump balls to catching through contact he is that guy. Along with a successful travel 7-on-7 season he also attended ECU, and WVU 7-on-7 camps with his high school team where he showed his athleticism above defending DB’s. Nathan currently holds offers from Morgan State ,and Boston College. I expect that list to triple by the end of this season if he continues to play at the level he is, and show some physical dominance behind the pads. 2021-2022 7on7:http://www.hudl.com/v/2FTsmi
