This camp serves to help get awareness out for the Big 33 Game as well help identify prospects for for the game each year. I was out at Ravens Under Armour Performance Center for the this Big 33 combine recently and was able to see a ton of local talent. Below are a few players that stood out to me that day and will be big time players next fall.
Shaheed is a physical specimen, yoked up and definitely passes the eye ball test. An edge defender he can play both standing up or with his hand in the dirt, I expect him to develop into a physical DE as he continues to add bulk to his frame. A physical player, Shaheed flies to the ball, plays fast, and will deliver a blow. He has closing speed off the edge and can chase down ball carriers. Shaheed shows goes strength and power when getting off blocks and making tackle. His hip explosion and ability to drive through the ball carrier comes from him also being a wrestler for Parkside. A high motor player, he is constantly in the backfield making tackles. A true force on defense, Shaheed will be an impact player wherever he goes at the next level.
I have seen Luke live a few times this spring and he has stood out every time. A great academic prospect, Luke holds a 4.4 GPA and a 1420 SAT score. He is a well slapped together DL prospect, thick build with pure strength. Luke displayed great burst and explosiveness off the snap. He’s got real nice mobility for a D-lineman. Is light on his feet, has good twitch and power through the hips. Plays with active hands, is able to swat the OLs hand away before they can get into his chest. Combine all that with being a high motor, get after it player and you got an impact DL prospect. Luke currently holds 1 offer and I expect more to come his way this summer.
Highlights
Jayden Dixon
Jayden Dixon
Jayden had a great showing at the event and I expect to see him have a huge senior season. Transferring over to Meade from Arundel High, Jayden looks to slot in as one of their premiere players. He has great length making him a prototype CB in today’s game. Strong in press coverage, Jayden is physical and displays a good jam and fight at the LOS. He can lock dudes up in 1v1 coverage showing fluid hips and explosiveness. Can stay in phase and on the WRs hip, then use his length to get hands on the ball. Jayden has a skill set that makes him a natural for the CB position. He should continue to open eyes this summer on the camp circuit.
Markus Burwell
Markus Burwell
Markus is a player who was new to me, and really caught my eye at the showcase. He showed really nice feet in OL drills. Played on his toes and had quick choppy steps. Markus also has a lot of power and strength through his hips/lower half. He would come off the snap with pop and drive. Was a top OL during 1v1’s, he was able to sink his hips, anchor down and keep defenders in front of him. He also showed off his athleticism and good footwork some more during these 1v1’s as he drove guys out of the frame and displayed nice lateral mobility. While still being a bit of a project as an OL prospect, Markus shows a ton of potential and should develop well.
Ryan Eshenbaugh
Ryan Eshenbaugh
Ryan was another player who I didn’t know a ton about as a prospect but showed really well. He is a high energy, hard working spark plug DT. Put on a great display in 1v1s showing how active and versatile he can be. I would classify Ryan as a slippery player…he is quick with active hands, can dip & rip, and showed a real nice quick tight spin move. Along with always playing low and with leverage, he makes it impossible for the OL to get a clean look at him. Ryan will be a disruptive force along the defensive line for Arundel this upcoming season.
KaRontez Bratten
KaRontez Bratten
Karontez easily stood out at the event as a top RB prospect. He is well put together, a muscled up dude. During drill work he displayed quick feet and good burst. Karontez is shifty player with good wiggle and fluid hips. He can make you miss and then has the speed to house it anytime. Has the ability to stick his foot in the ground and go with home run speed. That is why he is a weapon in the return game as well. A versatile one cut type RB, Karontez makes impact plays and should will be one colleges will want to see senior tape on.
