An inside look into some of the new 2023 defensive prospects in the Prep Redzone Rankings. [player_tooltip player_id="155552" first="Jaylon" last="Jenkins"], DB, Federal Way Jenkins is an impressive all-around natural athlete with plus speed, quickness, and change of direction. Fluid in the hips and feet he shows great balance, body control, and coordination to be an explosive playmaker on both sides of the ball. As a DB, he’s quick to break on the ball using his acceleration and burst to close space. Strong instincts and route recognition to stick with receivers all over the field. Will be a dynamic playmaker for Federal Way over the next several seasons. [player_tooltip player_id="155553" first="Andre" last="Jordan"], DB, Federal Way Checks a lot of boxes as a college level DB with his combination of length at 6’1” and athleticism. Capable of being a lockdown man-to-man corner he possesses great playing speed and reactionary quickness with an explosive break on the football. Good ability to plant and drive out of his back pedal. He’s a ball hawk with great timing to break up passes at all three levels. Picked up his first offer from Nevada in January and should see his recruiting stock continue to rise during his junior year. [player_tooltip player_id="87448" first="Ty" last="Evans"], DL, Skyview Good size at 6’3” 270 lbs. with a sturdy and well-balanced frame. Projects as an interior DL at the college level but has the versatility to play multiple spots on both sides of the line in high school. He’s a functional athlete that shows good initial quickness off the ball and lateral mobility in pursuit. Good efficient use of his hands, he’s able to extend to keep blockers off of him and away from his body. Plays hard and physical. He’s also a high effort player that can run and redirect in pursuit. Intriguing college prospect after showing flashes in the short spring season, he’s one to watch entering his junior year. [player_tooltip player_id="155604" first="Carlos" last="Orozco"], DL, Kennewick Orozco is a big time playmaker in the Kennewick defense and was voted first-team all-league after a strong sophomore season. Shows off his initial quickness and speed with an explosive get off and first step to quickly blow by blockers before they can get in position. Strong athlete that displays good short area speed and lateral agility in pursuit. Makes plays all over the field. Love that he’s always attacking playing fast, physical, and aggressive every down. Wreaks havoc on opposing offenses with the ability to impact the game from multiple positions on the DL. [player_tooltip player_id="155597" first="Etu" last="Tuifua"], DL, Kent-Meridian Versatile lineman that was voted first-team all-league on both sides of the ball as a sophomore. He’s a violent player, that shows great strength at the contact point using good leverage/pad level to overpower opponents. Good natural movement skills and flexibility shows he can move his feet, run, and bend in pursuit. He’s a finisher that drives his legs through contact and plays until the whistle. He’ll be an exciting player to watch as he develops.
