In this piece, we will be highlighting new names out of West Chester East High School. All of which are 2024 prospects who had good enough seasons as freshmen to land themselves on our watchlist moving forward. One player, Mitch Ragni, has not been covered on our site. The junior deserves that and more! Let’ get into it.
Mitch Ragni | 6’0, 215 | RB/MLB | 2023
We begin with Mitch Ragni, who has somehow slipped past our radar. Thanks to Head Coach Stephen at WCE for catching me up to speed. The highly productive one-cut runner displays a great understanding of gap discipline when touting the rock, as his reps at linebacker go hand-in-hand. The kid looks like a rock in pads, like he’s got armor on, his running style suggests that as well as he’s an eater in the red zone. Can trust him to fall forward more times than not and can expect him to literally drag defenders into the endzone with him. Ragni’s got a high and tight style that is at times stiff. Defenders don’t expect him to open up stride which he is capable of doing in the open field. A little bit of deceptive speed out of the junior, although it takes quite a while to get to the gear. This bruiser seeks out contact and is a lock to not be brought down by arm tackles. Add the stiff arm to his repertoire as well. I would like to see him stay with the high and tight ball placement through his runs, tends to show the ball a little when opening stride. I think this kid has all the potential in the world to produce at the same level, if not better, at the middle linebacker position. His game translates, his value to WCE is proven with reps on both sides of the ball.
Tyler Wileczek | 5’8, 155 | WR/DB | 2024
Mason Grear | 6’1, 240 | TE/LB/DE | 2024
Dominic Trubiano | 6’5, 170 | WR | 2024
Max Condit | 6’0, 180 | MLB/WR/TE | 2024
We will be grouping the next four prospects together as each had promising freshman season’s on WCE’s freshman team. The future may be bright at WCE, as these four sophomores look to contribute instant. Tyler Wileczek was an absolute pleasure to watch. Everything to start was unassuming, freshman team film, 5’8, under 160. It’s important to actually watch the tape! It was a fun three minutes, as Wileczek showed off some great overall athleticism. He shows good open-field burst with the football in his hands as well as good acceleration. The kid needs the ball in his hands. He provides a spark returning punts and kicks. He’s a young stud who I expect to make noise in PA in the future. Hope he hits the weight room!
Mason Grear carries an imposing build and has a ton of raw strength underneath his pads. I love that he played multiple positions on the freshman team. His reps at linebacker, defensive end, and tight end allowed him to get a feel for both sides of the ball. Hopefully, he soaked in all the knowledge he could playing three different positions. Excited to see where he ends up aligning. Tough call but the kid is big and strong, coaches love big and strong players, as do I.
Dominic Trubiano is intriguing! The offensive player of the year for WCE’s freshman team is a giant 6’4 wideout who has a set of sure hands. The route tree is limited to start off, no problem with that especially when you’re reeling in passes with ease. I’d love to see how he’d handle serious pressure from aggressive defensive backs. The big target has long limbs from top to bottom, which creates a wide catch radius all around.
Max Condit, much like Mason Grear is another smart and versatile young player who just needs to find a position. He excels as a linebacker and was in the backfield frequently. He’s a player who understands how to block at tight end and where to be at wideout. He will also find it advantageous to dabble in multiple positions this early on.
