It’s an area that will produce D1 football talent here and there, but it’s known mostly for being home to the biggest golf tournament in the world. The Augusta are has plenty of young talent coming through though, and many could be on their way to earning D1 offers sooner than later.
Marcus Washington Jr. – Groveton
Possibly the next peach-state defensive back to see his recruitment take off, Marcus Washington Jr. has seen plenty of interest come his way recently after a strong sophomore season and impressive camp showing this spring. At 6-foot-0 170-pounds, Washington Jr. is an explosive player who helps his team in a number of ways. He’s a natural defender with good ball skills, but he’s also a playmaking return man as well. He’s always a threat to score when he has the ball in his hands, but his natural cover skills and toughness should allow him to be a D1 defensive back down the road. Look for the big-time athlete to have even more opportunities to make plays as a junior. The multi-sport star could see offers come his way before the season starts.
Jordan Franklin – Burke County
He may still be been dealing with an injury that he had last season, but there are high expectations for Franklin in 2021 once he’s healthy. The 2023 ATH does it all for Burke County as he plays QB, RB, WR, KR, SS, & Nickel. He’s an explosive, powerful kid that does not mind coming downhill to make tackles. He has a great feel for the game, and is a bruiser when he runs the ball on offense. The 6-foot-2 195-pounder already looks like a D1 player and still has two more years of high school ball left. He’s a true “under the radar” prospect as he will have an opportunity to make plays on both sides of the ball each game next year. It will be his junior season, he’ll be hungry, hopefully healthy, and will be able to showcase his athleticism and play-making ability. The staff at Burke County has high expectations for him this fall, so don’t be surprised if Franklin becomes one of the top breakout players in the state this fall.
Kaleb Jackson Kaleb Jackson 6'1" | 180 lbs | QB Evans | 2022 GA – Evans
One of the top true athletes in the region, Jackson is a 6-foot-1 180-pounder who finds a way to make plays. Jackson passed for 900 yards and ran for another 900 yards this past season as a junior. As a quarterback, he’s a good decision maker, he makes plays with his feet, and he’s got a raw but live arm. He has no problem slinging it down the field and does a good job of keeping his eyes downfield when scrambling behind the line of scrimmage. Overall, Jackson is a solid athlete who is growing more and more as a quarterback. He accounted for 22 total touchdowns last year and led Evens to an undefeated record within the region last year.
