The new 4A class is stacked with perennial powerhouses and programs on the rise; all will be vying for the crown. Learn about some of the top returning prospects in the player capsules below as Prep Redzone highlights each district leading up to the season. From the trenches to the backfields, Iowa boasts some of the best talent around. Council Bluffs Jefferson [player_tooltip player_id="24006" first="Austin" last="Schubert"], QB, C/O 2022, 6’2, 185, hudl, Twitter Schubert is a very mobile Quarterback who throws well on the run and forces a defense to keep six or more in the box because he poses such a threat with his legs. He is capable of dropping back in the pocket, but really thrives on sprint or roll out. Schubert is so elusive and creative; he always has the upper hand when plays break down. Lane Toman, WR/DB, C/O 2022, 5’9, 160, hudl, Twitter Toman is a really excellent route runner and knows how to shake coverage from the slot. He creates a lot of space between himself and opponents with clean breaks and forcing Defensive backs to open up. Toman is also a really impressive Safety who plays well in reverse, keeps his shoulders over his knees, and flies to the ball. Braetyn Couse, DB, C/O 2023, 6’3, 165, hudl, Twitter Couse does such an impressive job as a Man Corner; he can press at the line, throw off the timing of routes, and stick with opponents through breaks. He also identifies routes really well from zones to pick opponents up, carry, and trade. Couse is especially physical for a corner; he gets off blocks with ease and gets to the ball. Blayke Binau, RB/DB, C/O 2022, 5’9, 175, hudl, Twitter Binau is a versatile Safety who plays really well attacking from the slot, a one high, or two high look. He is just as capable as an extra hat against the run as he is in coverage. Binau is also an impressive ball carrier taking snaps primarily from the Wing; he excels on plays like counter and dive where he can be aggressive and hit gaps. Dallas Center-Grimes [player_tooltip player_id="148887" first="Alex" last="Abens"], S, C/O 2022, 6’2, 185, hudl, Twitter Abens does an outstanding and consistent job of picking up opponents and playing the ball. He has a big skill set that lends really well to defending the pass and there isn’t much he can’t get to once the ball is thrown. Abens also does really well cleaning up the run; he can fill the alley, fit into the box, or chase to prevent big plays. [player_tooltip player_id="147985" first="AJ" last="Jahangir"], RB, C/O 2022, 5’11, 210, hudl, Twitter Jahangir is a powerful ball carrier who has a low center of gravity, top notch contact balance, and good burst. He is a square, north-south runner that has plenty of shimmy in confined space and can barrel right through opponents if need be. Jahangir is not one dimensional, though, and has the speed to get off-tackle. [player_tooltip player_id="147451" first="Huston" last="Halverson"], QB, C/O 2022, 6’4, 200, hudl, Twitter Halverson checks all the boxes when it comes to physical tools and has impressive throwing mechanics to boot. He delivers an accurate ball with plenty of zip underneath and can launch it downfield with really nice touch. Halverson looks poised working his progressions and reading coverage with a clear view over the Offensive Line. [player_tooltip player_id="148852" first="Austin" last="Fiori"], LB, C/O 2022, 6’4, 190, hudl, Twitter Fiori, with his length and leverage, has a huge presence at Outside Linebacker in a multi-front defense where his alignment is regularly changing. He can fill a gap really well from space and is very impressive when tight to the line of scrimmage playing laterally. Fiori is violent, twitchy, and decisive; he causes many problems for an offense. [player_tooltip player_id="105169" first="Josh" last="Hendricks"], LB, C/O 2023, 6’1, 210, hudl, Twitter Hendricks is a first caliber athlete who is all over the field in coverage and defending the run with sideline to sideline speed. He does an impressive job squeezing the end of the line of scrimmage; he reacts incredibly well when getting hands on and is just as technical in attack mode when pressuring. He is more than proficient rushing the edge or inside gaps with quick hands through his lane. Kakacek can wreck a blocking scheme and get to the ball in a hurry with impressive fundamentals. Glenwood [player_tooltip player_id="104083" first="Tate" last="Mayberry"], QB, C/O 2023, 5’11, 160, hudl, Twitter Mayberry is a dual-threat whose skill set lends very well to running behind a variety of blocking schemes. He has the patience, instincts, burst, and moves to give a defense a lot to think about. Mayberry has legitimate arm strength and accuracy; his running ability results in fewer defenders in coverage and helps Receivers get open. CJ Carter, RB, C/O 2023, 6’0, 200, hudl, Twitter Carter cuts on a dime and is so hard to track, especially between the tackles. He is very nimble and his body control is off the charts; not many can change direction suddenly and explosively like he can. Carter’s number can be called inside or outside, behind a variety of blocking schemes, and he will bust it for big gains. [player_tooltip player_id="99257" first="Brock" last="Sell"], QB/ATH, C/O 2022, 6’2, 185, hudl, Twitter Sell looks comfortable and confident droppin back and passing; he is light on his feet, keeps his eyes downfield, and has a quick throwing motion. He can take on the role of a gunslinger and fire the ball into tight windows or put impressive touch on his passes and lead his targets. Sell is a skilled runner on designed carries or reads. Austin Patton, WR, C/O 2022, 6’2, 190, hudl, Twitter Patton runs a variety of crisp routes from the X; he is without a doubt a gunslinger. He has the kind of arm strength his teammates cannot outrun and adjusts his balls really well to whatever route he is throwing. Kammrad is dangerous when he can tote the rock on reads and designed runs. Caleb Moore, LB, C/O 2024, 6’0, 180, hudl, Twitter Moore has limitless potential; he plays with a tremendous amount of confidence and maturity. He does so many things at the Outside Linebacker position, like spilling, squeezing, and shedding, that show he already understands the game quite well. Moore is explosive at the point of attack and disciplined in his responsibilities. [player_tooltip player_id="99196" first="Brayden" last="Loftin"], TE, C/O 2022, 6’5, 210, hudl, Twitter Loftin shows all capacities of the modern Tight End on film;
