These are linebackers and edge defenders in the 2023 class who bring much talent to the field and who have the potential to burst onto the recruiting seen in a hurry. All have great skills and are expected to be even better this upcoming season for their teams. This list is meant to shine light on these athletes and their promising futures so be sure to write down these names. This will not be the last time you see them!
Hudson Hooper – Bridgeland
6’2 – 200 lbs
Hooper is an excellent edge rusher but can also move to the inside linebacker when needed. On the edge, Hooper shows a very quick, explosive first step and defends the run incredibly well. He is physical at the point of attack and delivers the first blow. Hooper has great size for the position and shows good speed and hustle to make plays all over the field. He can be a valuable piece for the Bridgeland defense when he is on the field. Keep eyes out for him.
Jadon Ducos – Atascocita
5’11 – 200lbs
Ducos is a player with much upside at the linebacker position. He plays a physical game and knows how to play at one speed only, FAST. Ducos is quick on reads and shows little hesitation. He recognizes blocks and pulling guards extremely fast and meets runners in the lane before they can get a head of steam. Ducos is a solid tackler and shows to be very comfortable in the open field. He has proven to be a name who deserves much more attention and I believe his play will do the talking for him once again. Ducos and his teammate Jameer Martin will be the leaders of the Atascocita defense and will be making plays all over the field. Make sure to write down and remember the name Jadon Ducos for this upcoming season.
Jared Botary – Stratford
6’2 – 200 lbs
Botary is a great edge defender with good size and length. Botary shows good acceleration off of the ball and has the speed to chase down plays from the back side. He has long arms to defend himself from offensive linemen and disrupt opposing quarterbacks vision in the pocket. Botary places well and comfortably in space and makes plays when needed. He has much potential and he will be a player to follow for the season.
Malachi Martin – Channelview
5’11 – 205lbs
Martin is a physical linebacker whole loves to get into the mix on every play. Martin goes downhill in a hurry and often finds himself in a pile up, making the stop on the other side of the line of scrimmage. He initiates contact with offensive linemen, causing havoc in the backfield, and somehow comes out of the mess with a tackle. Martin shows strength and quickness in his game, and a great ability to quickly change directions in space. He is a player who does not give up on plays and continues to track a ball carrier down until the whistle is blown. Martin holds down the middle of the field with much confidence, and plays much bigger than what he is. Expect Martin to be even better next season and keep tabs on him.
Austin Stokes – Klein Collins
6’1 – 205 lbs
Stokes plays fast and physical. He is a player who shoots the A gap from his position with great acceleration and purpose, and makes key plays for his defense. Stokes shows the ability to diagnose plays quickly and react to the ball with a great motor. He uses his hands well to defeat blocks and does a great job of locating the ball. Stokes hits with the idea of leaving his mark on players and will be a player who only gets better the more he is on the field. He has much promise and will be someone to keep eyes on.
Brad Spence (OLB/DE) – Klein Forest
6’3 – 215lbs
Spence is a game changer on the edge and a true disruptor on the field. Spence is extremely physical at the point of attack and has tremendous burst off of the snap. He plays the run just as well as he rushes the passer. Spence sheds blocks easily, locates the ball carrier, and makes the play. He is a secure tackler with an impressive motor as well. Spence is quick on his decisions, and shows the speed to recover in a hurry if he needs. As a pass rusher, Spence dominates the opposition using his quickness and long reach. He gets into the backfield in a flash and causes much havoc for opposing offenses. Spence is a player who has definitely caught my eyes and soon will do the same to others.
