Braden Waters took home the DB MVP honors at the EXOS Select 50 Showcase, but several of his fellow position mates turned heads based on their play.
DB Standouts
Garrison Blair – Hebron 2024 – 5’9 160lbs
Blair was the youngest DB at the camp, so he still has another few inches he will most likely grow. He ran the 5th fastest 40 at 4.79 seconds. That type of speed, mixed with his route recognition and his ability to challenge receivers at the catch point make him a player to keep an eye on in the years to come.
Eli Anderson – Huntington Beach (CA) 2022 – 5’10 165lbs
Anderson has excellent change of direction skills and hip fluidity. He had a solid jam at the line of scrimmage and exhibited very good range when playing safety. The most impressive thing about Eli during the showcase was how he directed traffic during the 7 on 7 portion of the practice, trying to get his teammates lined up correctly and alert them to what routes they should expect. That type of high football IQ and leadership is invaluable.
Carter Sanchez – St. John XXIII 2022 – 5’8 155lbs
What Sanchez lacks in size, he makes up for in athleticism. He was the #3 overall athlete at the showcase, and top 6 in every testing category except vertical jump. He has great burst to break on the ball, and reads the field well while playing safety.
Ethan Mills – St. John XXIII 2022 – 6’2 180lbs
Mills is tall and lean, with long arms. He was top 10 in all but 2 of the athletic testing measurements. He has quiet feet at the line of scrimmage, allowing him to get a strong jam while in press and completely disrupt the route.
Trent Robertson – Episcopal School of Dallas 2022 – 5’11 175lbs
Roberston spent the showcase at the corner position, but some of his best traits displayed at the camp may lead him to safety at the next level. He has length that helps him cover up passing windows. Trent can get a good jam at the line of scrimmage but plays his best when he can see the play develop and come downhill to attack the ball carrier or defend a pass.
