June 2nd is quickly approaching and it marks the end of the D1 recruiting dead period. With the end of the dead period the college camp season gets started in earnest. This showcase will be one last warmups for athletes to get work in before the start of the camp season. I’m looking forward to seeing all of the players compete in Toledo, but here are a few that I’m especially interested in.
2022 Ironton defensive tackle Nathan Cochran was a force along the Tigers defensive line. He has a strong bull rush that he uses overwhelm blockers and collapse the QB pocket. I see him as a two gap nose tackle at the college level. I’m excited to see how he works against some bigger OL that he may not be able to over power. I want to see what kind of hands and technique he has to disengage and make plays.
I was at the Springfield All Ohio showcase and had the opportunity to see Dayton Stebbins 2022 Edge Tyreece Lattimore. Lattimore has a strong get-off and exception quickness. I’m interested to see how he’s coming along with his strength and pass rush techniques. I think Ty could put himself in a good position to have a really strong camp season this summer.
If you’re getting playing time at football powerhouse Lakewood Saint Ed’s las a Sophomore you’re doing some really good things. Linebacker Wyatt Gedeon (2023) is an agile and athletic linebacker who possesses plus size. He get’s downhill fast and plays with good strength and leverage when taking on blockers. What I’m looking to see is how fluid are his hips? Can he drop and cover? This is the next step in the evolution of Wyatt’s game.
I had the chance to see Roger Bacon play Ironton in the state semi finals this past season. Roger Bacon has probably one of the best 2023 tandem of cover corners in Ohio in Beamer Walker and Timyone Andrew. Both are listed at 5’9, but play bigger than their listed size. They play with good instincts and are fundamentally sound. I’m looking to see how they fare against some of the bigger wide receivers that will be participating this weekend.
Miamisburg 2022 Safety Corwyn Hurt Corwyn Hurt 6'1" | 185 lbs | DB Miamisburg Highschool | 2022 OH is an athletic safety who has shown to be a playmaker. In his junior season for the Vikings Hurt had 4 interceptions in just 9 games. I’m interested to see if Hurt can bring that playmaking ability to the 7 on 7’s on Sunday.
Jaylon Stoker Jaylon Stoker 6'1" | 215 lbs | LB Princeton | 2022 OH (2022) is another young man I saw at the Springfield Showcase. I still believe he is one of the best linebackers in Ohio that people don’t know about. After playing a few different positions in the past Stoker is going into a senior season at Cincinnati Princeton, where he will focus primarily on playing inside linebacker. Jaylon has excellent movement skills and and gets downhill in a hurry. I’m looking to see continued progression in his cover skills.
