One of the most important positions on the field is linebacker. A team can never have enough solid depth at the position. Indiana is set to produce an outstanding linebacker class. Today we are going to take a look at some elite Senior-to-be linebackers who deserve recognition and are ready to turn heads. These are the prospects any college program should covet as they can be a lynchpin for the defense for years to come.
[player_tooltip player_id="147061" first="Ethan" last="Depinet"], 6’1, 215 pounds, Tri-West Hendricks
[player_tooltip player_id="147061" first="Ethan" last="Depinet"] is a player who plays with an edge for Tri-West Hendricks. He is always around the ball and shows good instincts. I am particularly impressed by his ability to chase down running backs and stop outside runs. Depinet has the ability to read the play and know where he needs to be. Crucially, he is a solid tackler. This is supported by his ability to cover kickoffs. He always hustles to the ball and finishes the play. Depinet can handle the coverage duties of a top-tier linebacker. In both defending the run as well as the pass, he has a good burst at the start of the play and he shows good speed, allowing him to consistently make the play. The energy and intensity that [player_tooltip player_id="147061" first="Ethan" last="Depinet"] plays with would make him a great fit for any defense at the collegiate level.
[player_tooltip player_id="98032" first="Josh" last="Noble"], 6’0, 215 pounds, Lawrence North
[player_tooltip player_id="98032" first="Josh" last="Noble"] is the centerpiece of the Lawrence North defense. He plays very well against the run. He has great drive, allowing him to get to the ball. Noble also shoots the gaps very well. He finds any slight crevasse in the blocking scheme and he exploits it. Noble’s speed also serves him well in coverage. He can handle all of the assignments that are thrown his way. Noble also has the physicality necessary to play linebacker at a high level. He is a dependable tackler and shows great discipline in that part of his game. Noble can also contribute on special teams.
[player_tooltip player_id="98104" first="Romaro" last="Warren"], 6’1, 220 pounds, Lawrence North
Between Noble and [player_tooltip player_id="98104" first="Romaro" last="Warren"], Lawrence North figures to have one of the state’s top linebacker groups. Warren is a very tough player. This is evidenced by the fact that he not only lines up at linebacker, but he also plays fullback. Warren takes on blocks very well in the run game. He frequently discards those blocks and makes the play. Warren plays with great physicality. He is an excellent tackler and knows how to finish the play. Warren also shows that he is an instinctive player. He reads the game well and has a good understanding of what he needs to do.
Indiana has exceptional talent at linebacker this year. Central Indiana should be a recruiting hub for college coaches searching for someone to lead their defense. All three of these prospects are capable of doing just that. I will continue to showcase the state’s talent at linebacker later this week.
