Every Monday, we update you on all of the recruiting news from across the state. From offers to commitments and everything in between, we’ll have you covered. This week, for the second straight week, it was somewhat quiet on the offer side of things as only six prospects reported offers in the last week. However, that doesn’t mean we didn’t have any news. As always, you can follow us on Twitter to stay up to date from the moment an offer or commitment happens. @PrepRedzoneOK
THIS WEEK’S TOP STORIES
Armed Forces Back In Tulsa Area
The Armed Forces have been routinely in Oklahoma, offering prospects all over the state for the last few months and they were back at it again last week. First, Air Force offered Owasso 2022 defensive back [player_tooltip player_id="130378" first="Brandon" last="Ramsey Jr"] and it was the first reported offer for the Owasso junior. That was followed up by Army jumping in and offering Bixby 2022 running back [player_tooltip player_id="38679" first="Braylin" last="Presley"]. The Bixby standout named his top eight schools within the last month but Army is jumping in with an offer. Presley was our first ever Prep Redzone Oklahoma Player Of The Year award after a stellar junior season in 2020.
Ramsey is yet another Owasso Ram that has picked up an offer and is getting attention from D1 programs. Specifically on the defensive side of the ball, the Rams have several players that have either picked up offers or are very close to doing so. Owasso looks like they’ve absolutely reloaded for another run at the state championship this fall.
Hasz Announces Future Plans
If you’ve been following this weekly Recruiting Report, you’ve seen how much Bixby 2023 tight end [player_tooltip player_id="55156" first="Luke" last="Hasz"] has blown up over the last four months. Really since the calendar flipped to 2021, the Bixby big man has been arguably the hottest recruit in Oklahoma’s 2023 class. He went from one or two offers at the start of the calendar year to over 20 offers and college football’s blue bloods have begun their chase of landing the outstanding tight end prospect.
Last month, Hasz participated in the Under Armour All American camp down in the Dallas area. We’ve been on the record that Hasz should have received an invite to the All American game for 2023 on the spot when they gave out invites following the camp. However, he did receive his invite within a week of dominating the camp. Less than a month later and Hasz tweeted out that he would be participating in the 2023 Under Armour All American game.
McClellan & Shettron Shine At Rivals Camp
Some of Oklahoma’s best prospects made their way down to the Dallas area for the Rivals camp. It was put on by the popular recruiting website Rivals and featured some of the best talent in this part of the country. Prospects were invited and some of Oklahoma’s best really stood out yesterday. Owasso 2022 defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id="38674" first="Chris" last="McClellan"] and Edmond Santa Fe 2022 wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="38667" first="Talyn" last="Shettron"] each performed extremely well. So well that each prospect earned the MVP of their position group and were invited to their elite 5-star camp later this year.
Shettron, already an Under Armour All American and Oklahoma commit, has been on the radar since his freshman season. He helped lead Edmond Santa Fe to a state championship game appearance in 2020. He’s been committed to the Sooners since October of last year and hasn’t budged. On the other side, McClellan has absolutely blown up over the last four months. Similar to Bixby’s [player_tooltip player_id="55156" first="Luke" last="Hasz"], you can make the argument that the hottest recruit in Oklahoma’s 2022 class has been [player_tooltip player_id="38674" first="Chris" last="McClellan"]. He’s picked up over 30 D1 offers, including Ohio State last week. He’s absolutely blown up and has also backed it up against other top talent. Sunday was another example of that.
OSU Offers Top 2024 Prospect
Speaking of the Rivals camp, Del City 2024 defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id="110735" first="David" last="Stone"] was also a participant at the Dallas-area camp. Stone has already established himself as Oklahoma’s top 2024 prospect. He’s the only 2024 prospect in Oklahoma that currently holds D1 offers and another came on Sunday after he participated in the Rivals camp. Oklahoma State made an offer to the Del City standout on Sunday afternoon. The Cowboys join a few other Big 12 schools who have offered the Del City big man.
Del City 2021 standout [player_tooltip player_id="38497" first="Donovan" last="Stephens"] signed with the Cowboys back in December and he has been a big influence on Stone over the last year. When we spoke with Stone following his performance in the Under Armour camp in March, he mentioned that Stephens has given him a lot of advice and is a big supporter of the young Del City star. Stephens took to Twitter following the offer and suggested that Stone should join his Del City teammate in Stillwater in a few years. We have a long time to see how this plays out but OSU is jumping in early on the state’s top recruit.
Rowe Picks Up Offer & Sets Official Visit
Union 2022 cornerback [player_tooltip player_id="61138" first="Jayden" last="Rowe"] is also in that same conversation with Bixby’s [player_tooltip player_id="55156" first="Luke" last="Hasz"] and Owasso’s [player_tooltip player_id="38674" first="Chris" last="McClellan"] as a prospect that has blown up since the offseason began. The more that Rowe’s tape has been watched, the more colleges have jumped on the Union speedster. In the last week, Missouri has jumped in and offered Rowe and the Union standout set an official visit to OU for June. The Sooners offered Rowe earlier this year.
Rowe has been lighting it up over the last few weeks on the track as he truly is one of the fastest athletes in Oklahoma today. you can’t help but look at Rowe, what he does on the track and see that OU offer and think about former Union standout Tre Brown. The former Union prospect was one of the top rated prospects in his class, just like Rowe. However, Rowe is a few inches taller than Brown. But there’s no doubt that speed is the name of the game with both of these guys and Rowe has a chance to be on the same path as Brown.
