Despite the temperature being in the high 40’s and the winds gusting to over 30 miles per hour on Sunday at the Findlay All-Ohio Showcase, over 200 high school football players came to compete and display their abilities. The talent was impressive at all positions but the two groups that really stood out in these tough conditions were the quarterback and receivers. These are some of those skilled offensive athletes that had a particularly good day in Findlay.
[player_tooltip player_id="126480" first="Blake" last="Lichtenberg"] 6’1” 180 QB Toledo St. John’s 2023
Following in his big brother Brady’s footsteps, who will play for the Cincinnati Bearcats this fall, [player_tooltip player_id="126480" first="Blake" last="Lichtenberg"] shows the same poise and technical skills at the quarterback position. This junior to be, maneuvers well in the pocket and delivers the football to his receivers on time with accuracy. He also can throw on the move whether sprinting out or escaping the rush.
[player_tooltip player_id="126475" first="Connor" last="Pratt"] 6’2” 180 WR Van Wert 2022
Pratt was one of the most sure-handed receivers at the showcase. He runs precise routes and is a big target who can find windows in coverages for his quarterback to throw through. He also does a good job at the showcase of getting separation from defenders versus man coverage. Pratt, who averaged over sixteen yards per reception, was one of the reasons Van Wert won the 2020 Division IV state championship.
[player_tooltip player_id="126476" first="Evan" last="Unruh"] 6’0” 180 QB Lima Central Catholic 2022
Unruh was one of the most competitive athletes on Sunday. He can really spin the football with velocity and on target. He has good arm strength for his size and does a good job of leading his receivers on the long ball while firing it to tight windows on crossing routes and out cuts. Unruh does a good jog of hitting his receivers as they clear against man coverage.
[player_tooltip player_id="126481" first="Tywaun" last="Clark"] 6’1” 185 QB Toledo Central Catholic 2023
Clark is a raw talent at the quarterback position who throws the fade and seam routes with great ball placement and touch, dropping it in over the top of defensive backs even versus man coverage. Clark is an athletic left-hander that throws tight spirals even when sprinting out or throwing back across his body. He demonstrates leadership and competitive spirit along with his throwing talents.
[player_tooltip player_id="34414" first="Ben" last="Ireland"] 6’0” 175 WR Findlay 2022
For the second showcase in a row, [player_tooltip player_id="34414" first="Ben" last="Ireland"] stood out with his speed and receiving abilities. Ben runs great routes and really knows how to turn a corner and then separate versus man coverage. He has soft and sure hands and can catch anything thrown his way even if the pass is low or thrown behind him. Ireland is one of the most consistent receivers, performance wise, in the state.
Deshawn Vaughn 5’11” 170 QB Austintown Fitch 2024
This sophomore to be was extremely impressive at the showcase Sunday. He stood in and competed with more experienced and bigger players and did more than just hold his own. Vaughn has a smooth over the top release, throws a tight football, and displays accuracy. He will be a fun and talented quarterback to watch in the future.
