With notable names at the top of the offensive line group in this upcoming senior class; some might overlook the rest of the players at the position. But there is a surplus of talent throughout the rest of the group. These are six hogs that are flying under the radar heading into the ’21 season.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="35588" first="Tyler" last="Gourley"] </strong>– Free State, 6’2”, 290, OL
Despite Free State only having a six-game season; Gourley managed to put together some solid film. He shows consistency with his snaps, and his size and strength allow him to win matchups against 3-techniques. Gourley is now a two-time All-Sunflower League Honorable Mention selection after a strong junior year. He’ll have his sights set on a 1st Team selection this season.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="113616" first="Kaden" last="Fields"]</strong> – Osawatomie, 6’5”, 295, OL
Fields has the potential to be a special talent. Only problem is, he won’t get the recognition he truly deserves because he’s in the Class 3A Division. Fields doesn’t let that stop him though. He makes his presence felt when he lines up. Fields has the athleticism to pull and get up field, and his strength overpowers the opposition. Look for him to have a standout senior year.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="111772" first="Benjamin" last="Vasquez"]</strong> – Blue Valley, 6’2”, 290, OL
One perk of being the teammate of [player_tooltip player_id="35568" first="Nick" last="Herzog"] is; Vasquez has the opportunity of gaining the attention of high-level recruiters. Vasquez has the size and skillset to play at the collegiate level. He shows clean footwork when pulling, good awareness in pass protection, and he has the strength to win one-on-ones. Vasquez will be a prospect to watch this fall.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="111756" first="Chaylin" last="Peine"]</strong> – Anderson County, 6’5”, 280, OL
Peine is another massive offensive lineman from the Class 3A Division. His physicality jumps out on film. Peine has some nastiness to him when he engages in run blocking. He puts defenders on their backs, and he is good about blocking until the play is dead. The Anderson County product should gain more attention during the ’21 season.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="98393" first="Braxton" last="Bailey"]</strong> – McPherson, 6’3” 285, OL
Bailey was a part of an impressive offensive line that cleared the way for 2,000 rushing yards as a team and protected a quarterback that threw for over 2,400 yards. He has a good first-step when he’s run blocking, and he does a great job of protecting the right side of the line in pass protection. I’d expect another strong season from Bailey and the Bullpups.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="113644" first="Tavor" last="Hunter"]</strong> – Wichita East, 5’11”, 270, OL
Hunter picked up a 6A All-State Honorable Mention nod after an impressive junior campaign. He shows sound technique, and he is a good blind side pass protector. Hunter has the athleticism to get up field as well. I believe he’ll have a case for 1st Team All-State offensive line this fall.
