Pattonville (1-0) trailed 14-9 at halftime but scored twice in the second half to earn the victory. The game-winning touchdown came with 21 seconds left when Logan Williams connected with Mike Montoya for an 8-yard touchdown pass.
Here is a quick look at some of the standouts from the spring season opener…
PATTONVILLE
Charles Johnson Jr., RB, 5-5, 150, Class of 2022
Johnson was kept out of the end zone on Friday night, but put on a dominating performance with 174 yards rushing on 26 carries, an average of 6.7 yards per carry. Johnson is a smaller running back, but he’s shifty and elusive and has a chance to break long runs whenever he touches the ball.
Johnson rushed for 105 yards on 32 carries as a sophomore back in 2019.
Logan Williams, QB, 6-3, 225, Class of 2021
Pattonville’s quarterback was a difference-maker with his arm and his legs and made the decisive play in the game with the late touchdown pass to Montoya. Williams completed 14 of 20 passes for 134 yards and also ran for 66 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries.
In 2019, Williams threw for 890 yards and six touchdowns and ran for 249 yards and four scores.
Nolan Cobbs Jr., LB, 5-10, 220, Class of 2021
Cobbs was all over the field for the Pirates defense. He credited with a team-high 13 tackles.
Back in 2019, when he was a junior, Cobbs was third among the Pirates with 41 tackles.
McCLUER
Michael Hopkins, QB, 5-11, 188, Class of 2022
The junior quarterback was impressive in his debut for the Comets. He completed 17 of 23 passes for 220 yards and had his team in position to pull out the victory until the game turned in the final seconds.
Dennis Keyes, WR, 6-2, 168, Class of 2022
Keyes recorded nine receptions for 131 yards, averaging 14.6 yards per catch, and quickly established himself as a player to watch this spring and fall.
Back in 2019, as a sophomore, Keyes was McCluer’s second-leading receiver with 16 catches, which he turned into 174 yards and two scores.
Jadon Farmer, RB, Class of 2021
Farmer rushed 20 times for 103 yards and a touchdown.
Farmer was the Comets’ fourth-leading rusher in 2019 with 106 yards on 21 carries.
