These running backs returning across the Northern Section region fit this same mold and are looking to have huge seasons this Spring. Below we will break down some of the top returning running backs in the Northern Section that are set to continue their dominance over the next few months.
Tyler Harrison-Paradise HS
One of the top rushers in the entire state and only a Junior, Harrison is a dominant player with great size, strength and overall speed. Although currently not holding any offers, he rushed for over 2,000 yards as a Sophomore and tacked on another 30 touchdowns. He is a downhill extremely physical back that runs behind his pads and natural forward lean breaking most all ankle/arm tackles and constantly falling forward. Displaying good contact balance, he flashes good vision in traffic and can make people miss in open space while forcing tacklers to take bad angles due to his sneaky third level speed. He is a FCS or even FBS caliber prospect that should pull in a few offers as he enters into his Senior season this summer.
Eli Cortinas-Enterprise HS
One of the most under-rated backs in all of Northern California, Cortinas is a multi-dimensional player for one of the top teams in the region. During his Junior season, Cortinas showed good initial patience near the LOS and waited for his blocks to develop while showing a good burst and short area quickness/top end speed while being able to catch the ball out of the backfield and run a lot bigger then he is. A very tough prospect that can make defenders miss in space and has cutback ability, Cortinas has next level abilities and would be a steal for a 4-year school or Junior College.
Tavin Fowler-Lassen HS
Fowler is a big back with deceptive quickness and speed while moving extremely well for his size. A strong runner with an ideal build for the next level on either sides of the ball, he is a one cut runner with tremendous acceleration through the hole and good top end speed when he’s in the clear. Able to hit small windows for big gains and weave through traffic with good balance and lean, Fowler finishes runs with good physicality and is very hard to bring down once he gets going. Another highly under-recruited back in Northern California that has college level talent.
Odin Moody-Live Oak HS
Coming off a monster Junior season, Moody is a well put together and compact back with great return ability and strength, especially for his size. One of the most complete backs in all of Northern California, Moody is a physical runner that plays with a low pad level and displays good short area quickness/lateral agility while also able to catch the ball out of the backfield from awkward body angles with good body control and soft hands. Also showing terrific vision, cutback ability and third level speed, Moody is effective in the return game and is one of the most dynamic players in all or Northern California that can make an impact at the college level.
Arden Anderson-Gridley HS
Anderson is a taller upright back that gets to the second level in a hurry and can make the first defender miss in the backfield while running with strong leg drive and toughness upon contact. Also a patient runner that runs behind his blockers in the box and has the ability to shake tacklers with a well timed stiff arm, he is a high caliber D-III athlete that is effective in-between the tackles but fast enough to force defenders into bad angles and bounce runs outside.
Carson Lowrie-Winters HS
A true dual-threat quarterback with good size for the position and playing with good deception, Lowrie is a smart player who can play multiple different positions at the next level. During his Junior season, he did a good job at reading his keys and getting North and South in a hurry while running with good toughness and leg drive through arm tackles and allowing his blocks to develop while not afraid to gain the tough yards.
